Dan...40 doesnt really feel that dead to me. Their is nothing dead about the way my car takes off in 2nd gear at 40mph.

-No immediate shift required. It is toward the middle of the rpm range so it is good for a rolling start (engines not whining to hell)....and you can still hear the beeps.

-Traction is an issue from a first gear roll at 20.

-It is a good speed for a roll race and 2nd gear is the best choice for this speed. Starting at much higher of a speed seems more like a top speed challenge than a drag race. ..40 has always been good to me lol

Just my opinion...and it has worked well more than a few times.

just saying from experience...

I just prefer the 40-130 type racing because it takes away a lot of excuses etc. I have a very hard time launching on the street anyway...and this is only going to get worse as I add more mods in the future.
40 mph in 2nd gear, in a stock gear ls3, is 3300 rpms.... that is WAY below the power curve and is DEFINITELY a dead spot.

I had no problem hooking up in 1st gear doing 20 mph in my heads/cam/full bolt on/4.10 gear'ed car.....

but to each their own......

+1

or 40-140 if you have a fast car like 600whp+ that can trap 130+ in the 1/4 or your a C6 ZO6 driver because that's where it win's most race's between 130-140

The 5.0 have the weight and gearing advantage over the SS, if your friend has the 3.73 gears you better race him from a high roll (50-60mph), low roll is where his car shines, those 3.73s loves low rolls I'm sure you would be able to yank him or even beat him in the top end, all in all both cars are beasts stock or modded.

BTW don't forget your video camera

3300 sounds just right to me. Exactly in the middle of the RPM range like I said. Seems to pull very good from their.

Not sure how you dont have any traction issues from a first gear roll. If it was 90 degrees outside on a very nice road I would probably be ok...but for the past two months my car will get COMPLETELY sideways from a first gear roll most of the time with all traction controls off etc...which is how I would race obviously. Are you still on the stock rims and tires? I am seriously confused here...

How does your car run BTW? I want my eventual set up to be heads cam and 4.10 gears. Is it true the 4.10 gears are only going to break eventually?

have you had a chance to run the H/C and 4.10 gear combo with a good tire? I want to see what one could do with a 17 inch rim and slicks with a ~1.4 60ft.

BTW...I have always installed all of my parts....including the H/C build on my 98 camaro. I just dont do the tuning.

Couldn't afford bogarts this year. did lots of racing on the street. haha... and a prime example would be me against a 400 awhp 5 speed evo. from a 20 roll, I put bus lengths on him.... from a 40 roll... dead even.

3300 rpm IS a dead zone... your engine is making 225 rwhp at that rpm. lol. The 2010 camaro has poor gearing (for racing), and it needs as much as it can get. if that is where you race from, and plan on taking a car that is already aggressively geared. one word... RAPAGE

and my 4.10's broke after ~12k miles.... they sent me a new set that is sitting in my garage..... still debating on if i should put the new ones on or not.

If I were you I would cam my ss just to keep him at bay. Theres a real good chance he will trapp around 118mph which is the norm for a 5.0 with long tubes, cai, and tune.

118mph in the 1/4 Wow I cant belive how fast this new stang is! It kinda pisses me off :( I mean good for the ford guys, but man camaros have always been a bit ahead! Sucks for us, I cant wait too get long tubes and a tune and see how I stack up to this new 5.0

It will go back and forth. GM will one-up ford with the next gen camaro upgrades, then ford will come back with something better and the cycle will continue. Just do some modding

Nice.

Well the H/C 4th gen I beat from a 40 roll was in 2nd gear also and he had 3.73 gears. I still won somehow...

I know what power it makes in that range. I dont really consider it a bad spot. Too much faster and a shift is required. Too much lower and the car doesnt pull very well. First gear I spin. Sure 50mph would pull even better....so why not just start at 90mph in 3rd? or 130mph roll in 4th?

40 is just slow enough in my opinion to be similar to a drag race and still get traction.

Obviously any given car could have a gearing advantage at any given speed....and then others will not. Both parties have to be happy with the speed and likely more than one start speed will be attempted with varying results.

I like it so far....I guess you dont.

Orange chevy has trapped the same (118) with full exhaust CAI and tune M6 LS3. walker muffler has trapped 117. (though not necessarily on their best ET runs)

A member with an L99 just trapped high 117's with the same mods plus gears.

If the camaro is getting comparable conditions and traction the mph will be similar with a small edge going to the mustang (as usual)
