Whos talking cobras, I am talking about GTs! The cobra is a factory hot rod and really should have been faster then the Z28 and shouldnt be compared, if not its a fail! If Gm were to put a super charger on the 3rd or 4th gens the cobra would have gotten smoked. I just think its bull how you ford guys come on a chevy forum to tell us how much better your mustange is, do you not expect anyone to want to stick up for the camaro!

It's been back and forth forever. If you grew up in the 80's, the fbods couldn't hang with the 5.0's. In the 90's, the fbods ruled. In the 2000's, the Cobra's ruled, and the Camaro disappeared for seven years, then came back and ruled for a year. Now they're nearly equal, except for the GT500's. Next year, with the return of Z/28 and the Boss, it's anyones guess who will be on top. And on and on it goes.

Ain't competition great?

I dont think cobras, saleens, and GT500s are in the same boat... they are beefed up versions of the GT, factory hot rods! Gm has not done that with the camaro since the 60s, untill the new Z28 comes out the vette has always been GMs baby.

how do you figure?

For years GM and Ford offered a variety of what i call a "power ladder"...most recently it was this:
V6
V8
more powerful V8

so for us Stang guys it was V6 mustang, GT and cobra...for you guys it was V6, Z28 and SS

now its going back to those roots. nothings changed.

Are you serious?!?!?!

Better check your HP figures...there is a SUBSTANTIAL HP bump from a GT to Cobra....from a Z28 to SS very little.

When ( if ) the new Z28 hits the streets, then you can say it's apples to apples. V6, SS, Z28 = V6, GT, GT500

yes im serious.

so what if there was a substantial hp from the GT to the Cobra? thats how the ladder worked. its not my fault GM swindled a bunch of people out of their money with the old LT1/LS1 SS. but thats the way it works.

and i never said HOW MUCH more power was offered....just that there was a bottom, middle and top.

Thats now it worked man, the SS was just a small upgrade... hood, wheels, and few more ponys but it wasnt built to compete with the cobra! It was just an upgrade, the vette was and is top dog, thats why the camaro has never been built to run with hot rod stangs! Just think if ford never built the cobra... the cobra and gt500 is fords corvette, they have to make them bad a$$ and it should beat out the camaro! Untill GM decides they want to face them with the camaro ( new Z28 ) there is no comparing cobras to SS's and Z28s. If GM supercharges the new Z then its on

The Corvette was never intended to be a competitor for the Mustang. The Corvette is GM's top dog, but its target audience is not the Camaro nor the Mustang and the GT500 is not intended to compete with the Corvette. it shouldnt and it cant. its the most powerful Mustang built and thats it.

as for Saleen and Roush cars...those are "tuner" cars...they take stock Mustang GT's and turn them into their own creation. they have their own window sticker so theyre irrelevant to this.

Wow did I hit a soft spot with saying the word Cobra or what?

So back in the day you only street raced regular 2V GT's? what did you did when a Cobra came rolling up on you?
Its still a just 300hp mustang and they only had the 380 hp factory superchargers for 2 of its 8+ years of existence.

What about 2,700lb 5.0L LX fox body? Its not a GT but boy are they quick due to their light weight, is that fair or is it out of the question because your only talking about your 97 bolt-on M6 z28 that would kill stangs on the street all the time!, and nothing else.

I took down plenty of cobras in my Z28, my point is chevy did not build a camaro to compete with the cobras! The camaro has always been pitted against the GT, untill this new Z28 comes out the cobra is its own class of car. Chevy did not build a factory hot rod camaro, I wish they would have from the start, a supercharged 4th gen would have been awesome!

I am not excluding the 5.0 LX, I seen these cars get beat all the time! In my town the camaros ruled, and by the time I finished my olds it was all over for both of them anyway
