I love these posts..As I sit and read thru it shaking my head seeming to know the answers....lol

Point 1. he never said it was at a sanctioned track. Thus it is probably a couple rich kids on some street doing a rolling start from the honk of a horn. Pretty official results eh?

Point 2. Driver is a huge variable. I have seen the exact car be 1.5 seconds different on a 1/4 mile.

Point 3. I have never seen a Stock vs Stock race at a track not having the Camaro come out on top.

I bought my SS over the 5.0. I drove both. I am happy with my choice.

I also share the opinion that a matchup is probably a driver race.

But it also seems to me that in the right hands the Mustang is far easier to get into the 12s. And the 5.0 autos are getting unreal mph numbers.

Consider this:
  • 5.0 - 3620/412=8.79 lb/hp
  • SS - 3850/425=9.06 lb/hp
(both cars make pretty close to advertised HP at the crank)

8.79/9.06 = 3% power to weight advantage for the Mustang

The Mustang has a better power to weight ratio and more aggressive gearing. It should be a little faster.

Big deal. Add a CAI and a Race Scoop and you can pick up 15 RWHP to go 5.0 hunting. (8.75 lb/hp)

Just stay away from Mustangs with a CAI.

Lots of guys run crappy times (especially in LS3 M6s), because they can't drive all that well.

With average to below average drivers behind the wheel, an automatic has a nice advantage.
This. When the LS1 F-Bodies first came out, a lot of guys were running low 14's and bitching their ride was slow

But none of that $2000 in extras had anything to do with 0-60 times, which the mustang clearly wins: 5.4 to 5.9 seconds. Half a second is half a second any way you cut it. A clear win. It seems 290 lbs lighter with the same power and torque will do that.

....this further reinforces my belief that GM should have a "track pack" for the Camaro. It would definitely make us more competitive. Im not saying the camaro would get a faster 0-60, but it might handle better on a course. Interesting link though.

I call on ROT AND TRENCH. If they truly tested a 2LT then something is NOT correct. The limiter on the 2LT is NOT 118 MPH. Just saying.

Thanks

Read the article and you will see they talk about hitting the limiter which is at 118. Well it's not.

Why reference a you tube video and not post a link?

I'm interested.

Come on man. You just changed the whole car. All things being equal and stock for stock, the new GT is a tad faster car. Throw some headers and a tune and fill the gap.

I have both, and I love em both (and my daily driver is the camaro), I'll tell ya, I'm not the best drag racer but decent, my best run in the 5.0 was 12.85@ 110. there is a lot more in the car with just the engine stock. I think with a correct suspension and drag radials set up low 12's would be very easy. both the runs were in done in september a week apart and I got about 25 runs on both cars. they were the first time at the track with both of them. took the camaro one weekend then the mustang the next.

my best stock times in the camaro were 13.18 @108.
stock for stock the stang is faster and quicker in the quarter mile, at least with the 3.73's.

Your friend needs more seat time. This should be a driver's race.

Right, because the GTs are not running those times too right?

What do thoes that time sheet have to do with the Fords?

Stock GTs are running low 12s as well. 12.58 as a mater of fact. And that's the auto tranny.
