Talking Lawyer: GM is giving you a new Camaro for your Lemon!!!

Just as I was typing up the thread on pandora playing through USB, my lawyer called! GM accepted my car as a lemon quite some time ago but just now made me the offer! They offered a complete vehicle swap! They said the papers will take about a month or less and will be contacted on where to pick up my new camaro. My question is, could I get a different color? The lawyer didnt provide much info on the actual swap. And the Fiance just heard and wants me to consider trying to trade the brand new camaro for a new Equinox or Traverse since we have a little boy on the way do in May. She thinks a dealer will give us what we paid for it since the Camaro will not actually go home with us. I guess she wants to accept the camaro then turn right around and say we want something else. Well I tell you this right now! Not gonna happen! I have been flying my a** off to pay for my camaro and I know if I get rid of it now it will be years before I have something like it! I know an SUV would be a good family car but it is not like we have 3 or 4 kids. Just one on the way. If anything we should trade in her 09 Nissan Sentra for something else. But forget all that stuff.....Im getting a new 2011 Camaro!!

First, way to go on getting your Camaro replaced. I too had a car replaced under the Lemon Law, and I got the same type of car, but yes I was able to pick the new exterior and interior color.

Second, not too sure if GM will let you take a different vehicle. Mine was for the exact type of vehicle and I could not take a different model. Sounds like you might want to contact the lawyer to see if that is possible.

Third, congrats on the arrival of your new son in May. I know others on the forum who have babies and a Camaro, but they might also have secondary bigger vehicles for when you need the room for all the baby stuff.

You will love the HUD.

Usually you just pay the difference in MSRP to MSRP of the new vehicle from your old one. They don't car what you buy as long as you get something. It's called a "trade assist". Sometimes they have you sign a substitution of collateral agreement so you can continue making the same payments under the original term.

Your dealer should be able to answer most of these questions.
