The changes from 2010 to 2011 for the GT500 have been discussed in EXTREME length on here, especially when looking at comparisons of the GT500's vs camaro. There is obviously a huge reason why the 2010 GT500 was only a tad faster than the stock SS and now the 2011 GT500 has a significant advantage over the stock SS. As for the BASE Corvette being a lightweight version of the Camaro... well it sort of is taking the basic of basic (no options added) corvette. Yes, the Corvette is on a different chassis meant to handle a lot more power than the base model offers. But again what do you want us to compare to a "Stock" GT500 when it's $12K more than a completely optioned out Camaro? What if I came into your fanboy forum and threw up a comparison between the V6 base stang and a Camaro SS? Would that not be as stupid as comparing the GT500 (which is in its own class ATM) to an SS?

Pedders has already benchmark tested both the Camaro and Mustang. They are a drivers race apart bone stock and highly modified.
We know that the Camaro has stronger monocoque. We know that the Camaro IRS puts power down more effectively in the corners. We know that the stock Camaro brakes are better than the Mustang. We know that the Mustang is lighter. We know that the Mustang is lighter. We know that the Mustang is lighter. Highly modified, the vehicles are a dead heat, but on the day we had Hot Rod track side the Camaro won. Does the knew 5.0 change anything. We were making higher RWHP than the 500 and more RWHP wouldn't matter as the Mustang struggled to put down the RWHP we had. The Torsen differential in the Boss 502 would make a difference in the results, but then we could change out the diff in the Camaro. The factual answer is the Mustang and Camaro are a dead heat and that is good for the Muscle Car lovers everywhere. If you think one is a slam dunk over the other you are looking through Ford of Chevrolet tinted glasses. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It is an NBA adage. You can't coach height. On the track you can't coach weight. You can work around it, but a pound is a pound. Which car is my favorite? That is a really tough call. They are very different drivers. The Mustang is a light weight throw it around bad axx car. The Camaro talks to you and tells you exactly what is is doing and a bad axx car. There are days I want to drive the Mustang and days I want to drive the Camaro. I give a slight edge to the Camaro because of the incredibly sound monocoque and IRS. |

There's a big difference between a 2010 mustang and a 2011 mustang....even from saleen. While I agree that the 2010 was a closer race then people stated (especially with the l99), the 2011 gt is a better performance vehicle, in all aspects.

These Toyo Proxes are horrible when leaving from a dig. I would like to meet up with you one day and run you to see how close we are. The cage is mandatory for 10.99 and faster right? Good luck on your runs tonight!

I think he might mean the 2011 GT is a much better performer than a 2010 GT and in that case he's correct. The performance of the the 2011 Camaro SS vs the 2011 Mustang GT is much closer than the 2010 SS vs the 2010 GT. Last edited by porcupinekiller; 01-07-2011 at 05:00 PM. |

![]() And I don't consider the 80s ancient history, and 5.0s were beating Camaros left and right during that time. It must suck to be an older Camaro fanboi, they've had to fear the 5.0 badge TWICE in their lifetime. |
