I also have two witnesses that a cruiser was the vehicle parked next to me. I really do not care about the money. Its the principal and I don't need a court or the law to tell me this leo is an ahole for not fessing up. Obviously I had enough proof that I received a call today to get an estimate and it would be paid for. Your right law is the law but doesn't make it right does it? All I ask is to man up.. I have and would
Define reported...

It still sounds as though you made an inquiry to the SGT to find out from one of his officers if they hit you. I can tell you, no SGT in Florida is doing a crash report when non-ranking officers are on-duty unless it is a very...VERY small agency.

What this tells me is the SGT will go to briefing tonight and say "did anyone hit a camaro". If the cop did hit you he will either man up, lie, or maybe he had a call took off like a bat out of hell and really didn't realize he hit you. I don't believe that personally, but heck...I wasn't there. If no one admits, the SGT will drop it. I could be wrong, but that is what im gathering...still doesn't sound like you were assigned a case number. Which is what insurance wants...
I NEVER said you didn't have the evidence of a hit and run. Of course you have evidence of that, you just don't have the evidence of who did it. That was my point..insurance is required to file your claim. However, they are not required to keep your rates the same if it is a claim without a case number. Which...some, NOT ALL, some insurance companies will file that as a claim to justify increasing rates if you do not have a crash report with a department case number. I have been there, that is why I say it. Now your insurance may very well pay for everything and never complain...if you do, you have a great company so never leave. lol

Again, I don't mean to be a jerk, but pictures, witnesses...all mean nothing unless someone saw this individual (cop or civilian) hit your car in the act or it is on video.

As far as private...this is not a law enforcement exclusive lot and you, as a civilian have the right to enter the parking lot for business. Subsequently, it is public access. The property owner still has the right to tow anyone who is not invited if it posted...but it is still public access. Meaning we can do a report in that lot and we can issue tickets. However, that is irrelevant for this case.

I personally would try to make contact with that Sgt again. Make sure he realizes you just want to know what happened, would like to get a DHSMV crash report (although he now has the right to refuse, but you could have a civil claim against them if so), and make it clear you are not out for an officer's head or civil liability if you don't wish too. Chances are if he sees you aren't steaming anymore and just want someone to fix it you might find someone chime up if the cop actually was the one to hit you.

I haven't hit anyone in 5 years (the duration of my career), if I did I would own up to it...it doesn't cost me anything except a write up. It is a govt. based auto insurance provider for us, not personal. That is why I questioned if the officer wouldn't just come forward.. it won't cost him out of pocket either way.

That sucks. Mine is black, so I am extra careful where i park. Its amazing how often i will park way out of the way and someone has to come park right next to me. 20k miles not a ding yet and trying hard to keep it that way. Good luck on the repair.

Get out the bubble wrap. Don't drive your car outside the garage. Park, in the next county.

My heavens, Yeah, it stinks that this happened to the OP's car. But really, its part of owning an automobile. If it's your DD, be ready, for a lot of issues (i.e. Rust, chips scratches, debris, dirt, etc.).

That's why i am somewhat amazed at the length at which folks are delving into defining the resolution of this.

Now, if someone set the car on fire. Slashed the tires. Or kidnapped your kids, murdered your spouse, torched your home, or other heinious crimes, i could understand.

But, while it stinks to have a door ding and residuall damage to your car, keep it in perspective.

Not trying to bash anyone here, but it seems like every other day, we get a " My car got a ding today, and I'm really pissed"

Let's see if we can get a grip on life guys.

Sorry, I am not a PW. Read through my posts since I have been on this site. Pretty much active positive dialogue.

Just pointing out an observation on things from my perspective.

To me a door ding while annoying, isn't really all that serious in the grand scheme of life.

Oh, BTW, been posting on here for almost three years.

My heavens...so what your saying is I can use your car as a backstop to resemble a catcher when I pitch baseballs to my son and you wont chase or prosecute me if it only happens once? HIGH FIVE!!!

I am just messing with you man...you and I both know the first one is the hardest. After that, ehhh ok. The first one is painful no matter what and you cannot deny that....my purpose was to inform him, while he has a "suspect" he also doesn't and needs to be careful pointing fingers. You are right..it is minor, insurance will fix it. However, I understand his frustration. When I get my first ding, you will see me on here as well crying like a 12 year old boy...

Already had mine and got it fixed. Guess, I am too old to let something like that get to me anymore.

Seriously though, I would go into the office and ask about the door ding while being tactful about it. I'd say, "Guys I noticed one of the crusiers parked rather close to my vehicle the other day and later noticed a paint chip in the door. Did anyone see anything like this while they were out on the lot?" Of course, if your insurance company can pick up the tab then no sweat. No sense in making enemies:-)

What I might do, however, is after getting it fixed and notice this again, I would absolutely go inside and ask the desk SGT to accompany you outside to see another vehicle parked close to you. I certainly wouldn't let it slide if you notice this again. But it's your choice to bring it to their attention the first time around. I would probably go inside and just subtly make some hints or ask if anyone saw anything. They'll get the hint.

I didn't mean post a smart remark about football when you are ticked off about your car.

I really disagree with this. It goes to the fact that people do not care about someone else's property. If I were the OP I'd be as pissed as he is. I have a decent job but a car like this is still a big expense.
I for one, would not just saying "oh well" if it happened to me.
