Because people are stupid and don't know how to buy a car. You can find a different market and get the car without a markup. You can also use a car buying service. Also there are plenty of Camaro sales people on this site that you can get your car through without a markup.

I have only had one dealer try the markup crap with me years ago. I told them I would buy the car that day but they have to take the markup off I am not paying it. Took about an hour going back and fourth they finally removed it.

Just because it is a new model and it is popular doesn't mean you can't find it without the markup. I did not see a single dealer here in Houston marking up the Camaro SS when it first came out.

Only if Chevy wants them to and toes the line. Most expensive part of the ZL1 is the motor, and its paid for. Chevy can sell this car for the low 40's and still make plenty of money. don't compare part for part with the aftermarket, its a different animal. I wouldnt be surprised if the tranny is from the vette either. ALOT of these upgrades are already in the parts bin from other models.

Sure the Car is going to be hot at first. but that too will subside. they have to price it right!!
This is my line of thinking and why I would refuse to pay so much. Hell, I was kind of dissapointed in the "lack" of creature comforts in my 2SS paying $40,000. compaired to my 2 Suburbans and Tahoe.

[QUOTE=Dragoneye;2824081]Two things to keep in mind with ZL1 pricing:

1) It's meant to compete with the GT500. Just as the SS competes with the Mustang GT, and the LT/LS Camaros compete with the V6 Mustangs.

2) It's not intended to sell as many cars as the SS does, for instance. 5...6...MAYBE 8 thousand units a year? QUOTE]

Agree. People will buy them, how many is yet to be determined.

ONLY reason I didn't is becaus I found a place here in Mobile where I'd be the first to get one on pre-order.

I'd have used Becky of course.

I was saying $47,495 a long time ago. That was before I knew about the Mag-ride, so I may have to revise that, but I wholly expect before bells & whistles get added on we'll still be under 50k.

I don't think there is going to be "thousands" worth of options for this car. Just suede (about $1500) them maybe different finish on the wheels and stripes and extra for there special paint. I dont think there is going to be a 5k margin. I wish they would offer a recaro option like the V.

If the base is truly $47,xxx there will be no better bang for your buck on the planet. I was expecting 55 for sure.

I'm thinking that if anybody wants one in the first year they'll be paying 75,000 plus TTL,one of the first 2SS I saw was marked up 20,000 and was sold the same day.The availability will be very limited at first, therefore driving the price up,and those willing to pay will be happy to do it,I'm not inclined to give free money to dealers, but this car could have a good chance of becoming a collectible in the future and be well worth the price

No car is worth an imaginary markup at the dealer. When buyers stop accepting this as "common practice, get used to it" It WILL stop altogether.

If a dealer tries to rip you off on a ZL1 -- PASS THEM OVER!!!
