If he is an auto..you'll have to drive your pants off. Just hit your shifts just right and without fail, and you have a very good chance of winning (but so does he)

If he's a manual..you'll be on much better terms, as the playing field is effectively equal.

The 5.0 isn't THAT far ahead of the SS, people are just over doing it. The 5.0 is a tenth or 2 faster, not seconds. I've seen from personal experience 5.0's getting beat by manuals, and I've also seen the 5.0 beat the SS. It really depends on the driver.

In my honest opinion, I think the only thing the Mustang 5.0 has over the SS is simply less weight. I thought the LS3 made more power and torque across the board. The only real advantage I see the 5.0 has is it's less weight and gears. Other than that, I feel like the LS3 is a better built engine, despite the Camaro's actual weight. If they made the Camaro lighter with 426hp the Mustang would have big trouble.

But as of now, I'd say the 5.0 is faster but not significantly, the Camaro would need more power to win. I have headers, exhuast, cam, cai, and a tune,....and my car is a L99, and right now, it's destroying 5.0's,...even some lightly modified ones; all it takes is more power and you'd upset alot of owners. But this modding thing is vice versa.

I was a gt500 owner. SS doesn't seem that much slower at all compared to the stock Shelby. My buddies car will be a 6spd with the 3.73 gears.

Shift well and dont blow your tires off on launch and you'll have a good chance.

If your friend is a smack talker, most good friends are, don't let him rattle you. You don't have to beat him from start to finish, only at the finish. Don't screw up the launch or you'll never give yourself a chance, same goes for him. From what I've read about these cars, you two aren't that far off from each other. I had, what sounded and appeared to be, a stock S197 beat me good one time because I screwed up the launch.

You can beat him, stock for stock just out drive him! If you go from a roll you pull away from him in 3rd! Thats been proven many times, the 5.0 has a 60ft advantage and the SS has a speed advantage!

well said, i think this is as true as you're going to get OP. coyote has the advantage its def. a more technological motor, and responds to mods better from what ive seen, than the LS3. i can't help but think if we had the same weight as the ol 4th gens w/ the LS3. it would be a terror IMO
