Yea the mod comment was ridiculous.

My first thought if I bought a GT500 would be either looking to get the TVS swap or at minimum pulley and tune.

ha ha! Milk got burned! This is what I like: open-mindedness. It's not about "Ford vs Chevy" - that's just so inward looking. It's about "this car vs that", and it's refreshing when someone can buy both GM and Ford products simply appreciating the car rather than having brand-biased goggles on.

In a forum, we should be able to talk about the merits of a car model without all this childish "this forum is only for Chevy love" talk. Our love for cars should trump any ludicrous fanaticism for any one brand.

Honestly it doesn't need it. 2010+ GT500s that get the package from Ford that involves the TVS swap puts the GT500 to a 660hp rating, and it is shown that the 660hp is pretty conservative. This package retains the factory warranty. I have been saying the whole time the ZL1 needed to shoot for 600 or more hp because the GT500 would easily go that route.

But Ford had made it known when the ZL1 was official announced that it was ready to up the power of the GT500.

It was widely rumored for over a year now the GT500 would move to the more efficient TVS blower, this would come as no surprise. Heck it was even speculated that the blower Ford uses on the GT500 was close to being discontinued and forcing Ford to make the switch.

I have no doubt Ford will make the TVS standard and put out a 600+ hp GT500.
It's not that the Cobra needs it, that is what Ford built and it just happened to be a 5.8. The article said that it would be a bored 5.4 and since the 5.4 is about 330 cubic inches that means the 5.4 would have to bored .150 over to make up the extra 21 cubes. The Aluminum 5.4 isn't sleeved but even still, the maximum possible bore on the 3.7 (it has a standard 3.55 bore stock). That would put it at exactly 3.7 bore, even though it can be done, with the amount of boost intended (10.5lbs) this would cause serious durability issues. After plugging the numbers last night, I highly doubt this will be a bored 5.4. The old FR 5.0 Cammer was a bored modular engine and needed rebuilt after every race... Modular motors do not like being bored... Stroked on the other hand....

Also, there hasn't been any advancements with DI in the 5.4 or TiVCT. That said, the 5.0 is DI ready and already has TiVCT. The old 5.4 is expensive and would be even more expensive to add TiVCT and DI in the future. In 2009, Ford experimented with a Coyote 5.0 that used the 5.4's deck height. The Coyote 5.0's internal measurements are:
Coyote 5.0L
Bore – 3.63in (92.2mm)
Stroke – 3.65in (92.7mm)
Displacement – 302 cu in, 4.951L

The Coyote Long Stroke would need to use a longer rod than the 5.4's 4.165in (105.8mm)
Coyote 5.8
Bore – 3.63in (92.2mm)
Stroke – 4.24in (107.7mm)
Displacement – 351 cu in, 5.752L

The cost between the Coyote 5.8 and Getrag MT82 over the 5.4/TR6060 would me much less. The 5.8 would be a recast 5.0 with the new deck height being 1.1" taller. The 5.8 would be produced in the 5.0 factory so it would no longer require two separate plants to manufacture. The 5.8 would be a global engine as the 5.4 is no longer used in any other applications other than the SVT. I would figure the cost of this TVS 5.8 would be around $14,000, the 5.4 currently cost $21,000 so about a $7k savings. The TR6060 cost about $6000 and the Getrag MT82 only cost $2500. Drivetrain prices would be $27,000 vs. $16,500.. That over $10k cheaper then what is currently used. People see a new displacement and automatically figure its a brand new engine, just as when the 5.4 went aluminum... Everyone claimed it was a brand new engine and that is incorrect.

If this is the Coyote 5.8, then this engine was built aside the 5.0 in 2009. Ford didn't have the need for a 5.8 at the time and CAFE standards would have made TiVCT mandatory, in turn, Ford used the TiVCT on the 5.0. The little information I get on this ghost motor the more interesting things I find. Ford wanted a compact engine for a possible Ford GT return (Which was announced early this month) as the 5.4 was too expensive and the 6.2 is physically too big.

What this says to me is that the 620hp that was suggested would be a detuned version. The Boss 5.8 (what the Aussies are calling it) actually produced 612hp with an old school blower, saved almost 30lbs over the old 5.4, saved a total of 59lbs with the Getrag MT82 and was suggested that it was the next 5.4.. but shared nothing but deck height with the 5.4. Ford could go multiple ways as far as engines, but the 5.4 is on its way out.. Its just too big physically to fit between the fenders of the next gen Mustang (length and weight) because the 2014 Mustang is being sculpted around the Coyote... I like the sound of this engine and I honestly never seen this coming, I knew the 5.4 was on borrowed time but I always figured it would have been the 5.0 Coyote... At least I got the Coyote right...

How exactly did I get burned? It doesn't stop the fact that his previous comment had no merit at all. You know what, he hasn't even driven both cars, so his last comment makes no sense either. We're talking about two cars that are 1-1.5 years away, and he's basing everything out of his own personal opinion.

That is true. Why does GM take so long to respond to Ford when Ford responds to GM before they even officially made the car. Lol that's so weird.

My guess is right now with the way the world and Economy is going whats more important add more HP to say im over you or try and keep the rest of the car and other trucks/cars up there selling as well.

I think Gm see's the Camaro is selling right now as it is whats the need to put more $$$$$$ into more Hp when the car seems to be doing just fine like it is.

Only a hand full of people really care about the HP when buying these cars.

the car looks good so they buy it.

I wish they would bump the HP however it is still a little New to do so. Maybe another year or so they bump it 15/20 hp

True. But if they can put together a whole package, car-wise, I think that's a better base than what there is right now. I totally see what you're saying though

I've to this day haven't done any performance mods to my Camaro and don't plan on it, got a 05 GTO with over 900 ponies and it rarley even see's the strip anymore because of the need and feeling is just gone.

So in short let's get over which car is gonna be the fastest and let's just enjoy what you brought. Simple as that, if you can't do that then you will never understand what enjoying life is about.

And my love for CAMARO trumps all other cars. That doesn't mean I can't be objective, but this is a CAMARO forum afterall, and to spend as much time as we have for another car on pure speculation is almost a waste. It's funny because some of the people who call foul when we post speculation/information about CAMARO cry foul when we call them out for the same.
