thanks for the tip on the rear view mirror. i tell you, holding out for the ZL1 would be pretty awesome!! anyone know what they would MSRP for?

you know normally i am a "buy used, you get a better deal" kind of guy, but i built the 2SS i would like to own on the chevrolet website and it was pretty well under the 40k mark. used 2010 camaros are going for low 30s, so i think it might be dumb not to pay another 5k for exactly what i want and get it brand new.

most likely i'll sell the bmw on my own and hope i can make out okay. one thing i would like to ask though, is if i did buy new, what are some absolute features i should add and which ones are not worth paying for? i really like the upgraded 21" rims, but for $5k, that's pretty steep. thanks for the help and again for all of the replies.

oh, and i was "building" a 2SS. is the price leap from the SS worth it to the 2SS?

I have owned a lot of Camaros and Corvettes over the years and lots of other hot cars too all of them GM except a few and had great times in them but I love this car. Something about this new Camaro.

Pictures are worth a thousand words...this is how I feel when...

Getting ready to get in it

Driving it

Looking at It

Looking at other Gen5 cars

Deep down subconscious feelings

I live in the land of the Euro-box, and yet here I am, having paid extra taxes, and jumped through personal import hoops, to own a Camaro. The 5th gen Camaro in my view is easily as well built as anything coming out of Europe. Beemers, and Mercs are really only also rans these days, relying on past glories to fool people into thinking they are paying for exclusivity* (*? more 3 series BMWs were sold in Germany in 2010 than Focuses) , and impeccable German engineering. Don't get me started on speccing up German cars either. By the time you've specced a Beemer up to the level of say my 2LT RS, you will have added another 50% to the already inflated base price.

Buy the Camaro, you will love it

Visibility is not an issue if you just keep aware of what is around you. The rear seat is only good for weight reduction. Get rid of it. My 6 year old will not fit back there with any comfort.

I don't have it yet, but she will come with leather. I went all out as I intend her to be the last new car purchase I make in the next 20 to 30 years. The leather and all the bells and whistles is what drove me to the 2SS over the 1SS. I even sprang for the RS appearance package.

You should be able to get well below MSRP for a 2011 2SS. If you can't get more than $2K less than MSRP from your dealer, move on to the next.

Also, the ZL1 is probably going to MSRP for around $50k.

I'm sorry to hear you had to become convinced the hard way...no matter what car a person buys -- it's always a pain in the behind when troubles just won't stop coming. :(

I don't own one yet...so I'm not sure how valuable my comments will be to you...

I love 5thgen Camaros. Hottest car on the road.

They are very reliable...while there are a few issues that seem to keep popping up - none of them are anything major, worth worrying over. Am I guaranteeing a flawless ownership? No. You don't build a product this complex without something going wrong at some point...but the warranty's the best in the biz @ 5/100,000 miles powertrain.

Generally, speaking -- the car's built at the second-most highest ranked assembly plant in the continent in terms of quality...and the engineering team did a helluva job making sure the Camaro was flawless, rapidly attending to the few issues that showed themselves in the first few months of production. So, in my opinion, the likelihood of something going wrong is low.

You can modify the car...but anything big...like superchargers, tunes, etc, etc...they'll only void the warranty if it causes something to break. And they will check. But, if you have an intake, lowering springs, and headers on, for example, it's unlikely you'll have any trouble...

I have driven both, though again, I don't own them...the Vette is quicker, because it's lighter. Very simple physics there...but the Camaro is no less strong. It sounds just as great, and it's VERY comfortable and more supportive than the Corvette. The LS3 in the Corvette is rated at 430hp, while it loses 4 hp when used in the Camaro, but otherwise they're pretty much identical. Easy 25mpg on the highway, probably more like 18-19 combined...of course that all depends how hard you drive it.

I hope this was helpful to you, and if you decide to get one - I hope you have a "perma-grin", like so many people around this site do.

well, as far as looks go, this car looks like nothing else on the road...... it's mean looking and to this day still turns a lot of heads.

as far as reliability, there are tons of us having issues with our transmissions. 2nd gear grinds for some and for others (like me) when you get hard on the car it sometimes locks you out of 5th gear. I think it's ridiculous that the transmission in this car is so un reliable. but we are all collectively working on GM and trying to get the issue resolved lolol

other then the tranny there really hasn't been any big issues.

I drove an 08 vette for two weeks a month prior to me picking up my camaro and i have to say that you can't really compare the two of them. That vette was a grand sport model (ls3 engine like the camaro) but the vette was an absolute beast !! that thing was so light and nimble that the car felt like it was going to take off like an air plane lolol. so it's not really a fair comparison. but if it means anything to you, the dealer gave me the choice between picking up the vette for the same price of the camaro i had ordered from them (32,000) or the camaro and i chose to go with the Camaro.
glad i did !!!

The only visibility issue I really run into is pulling into parking spots.. You can't really see whats infront of you so I just back into everything and use the parking sensors.. way easier.

I have owned a 2005 c6 corvette and a 2008 z06. My 2011 2ss is nowhere near as fast as either of the vettes. But as a daily driver the camaro is much better. I have the A6 which works really well. The camaro has an amazingly smooth ride even though it rides on 20's. Also, the camaro is very quiet, in a good way. No road noise, wind noise, rattles, etc. Another 100hp would be nice. But really its plenty fast and sounds good at wot. Hard to beat it for a daily driver. And four people can fit as opposed to just two in the vettes. Aside from a few minor drawbacks it really is a great car.
