If you're not adept at controlling your car in a slide, please please please keep the nannies turned on!

You are so lucky that you didn't get hurt.

I used to race quads as a kid, I've done lot's of driving in snow and Ice, correcting a slide is like second nature to me. I've had the back end kick out doing 55+ around a corner in my 1SS. It was intentional, the car slides very predictably. Keyword here is intentional. Most folks aren't used to their car's ass kicking out sideways and will panic and or way overcorrect, which leads to fishtailing, and spinning out.

Generally if you let off the gas and VERY SLIGHTLY countersteer, the car will right itself. It's really a sensation/skill that you can't describe and really need to get a feel for yourself on a closed course or some other means besides a public roadway.

These cars are no joke. These safety features/driver assists are there for good reason. It's a good time to really step back and have an ego check. Most people aren't used to a car with this much power.

I see you still enjoyed the thrill of the scare.
The SS is no joke and a true beast.

All of us SS drivers that have not done so already, should take a professional lesson (for fun and peace of mind) on being able to handle and tame the burst of power these beast can do.

There is much more to comp mode than just LC. Comp mode is actaully really useful as it turn TC and STrac to min levels for racing where you want SOME wheel spin. It will just kick in when losing it is inevitable.

I will say, I hold that button for 7 seconds EACH AND EVERY TIME I get in the car. Its not that hard to control the car...

RESPECT the car and it will treat you well!

Kinda like this?

Of course it much more fun to see "them" do it rather than us.

If you are not used to how our cars slide or how quickly they can lose traction it is defiantly a good idea to keep all of the nannies on.

On the other hand, once you do learn how our cars react in these situations they are very easy to control. Investing in a Bondurant driving school since they now use Camaro's is a good way to learn.

Remember, be safe out there.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

That's why they say to always leave Stabilitrac ON on public roads.....

I'm glad you're okay.

This is also why it's not so great to learn how to drive these cars depending on Stabilitrac...I don't think you would've stepped on it quite so aggressively if you had known the car's true potential...

Having only ran the drag strip 4 times prior to the Camaros for Heroes event hosted by the Camaro South Club, i decided to use the PERFORMANCE MODE for the first time ever...

The result is below:

I will post the in car video of the that run later, but I reached about 135 mph before I finally let up!

I definitely have to admit that I had a scare like that once in my SS. I turned everything off, and ended up sideways making a left hand turn. Fortunately it was in the middle of nowhere, and no other cars around. I started from a dead stop at a stop sign, revved it a little, and eased off the clutch, and next thing I know I was sideways. I didn't over correct, eased off the gas, and straightened her up, but my heart was pounding. Scared the shit out of me. I just didn't expect that much, that quickly. I have a new-found respect for it.

I still turn everything off every now and then when I want to play around a bit, but I have a better feel for what it will actually do. With Stabilitrac and TC on, it gives a false sense of security, and, even though it's still a powerful beast, it really doesn't cut loose that much. Turn them off, and it can be like lighting a rocket and trying to hold on. It was actually because of my scare that I decided that I wanted to get a better feel for it with the safety systems off, to learn how to handle it better. I've always done it on back roads, in the middle of nowhere, with no one else around. I've also eased into it a lot more gently. I just wasn't prepared the first time I really broke it loose.

Be careful with these monsters. If you turn off Stabilitrac and TC and get onto it to much, it's is liable to break loose and get away from you frighteningly quickly. I'm all for playing around with them a little bit, but ease into it until you really get a feel for it. It's got enough power to rip the tires loose from the pavement rather easily.
