The test was conducted at the Streets of Willow, not Laguna Seca.

I wonder why they didn't test the gt500 KR, as opposed to the regular gt500. That way there prices would have all been virtually the same (give or take)

There wasn't a KR available this year, in many ways, the GT500 SVT PP would be the "KR" as it is the performance option.

The new ZL585 ran an 11.5 with street tires. The GT500 has hit 11.1 with nothing but stickies.

The ZL1 will be just fine against a boss in the 1/4.

Just listen to the difference with the red key. The car sounds like it's cammed!

I wouldn't expect that much of a gain in 1/4 mile times with the Red key. All the details are still murky, but it's mentioned that peak power wouldn't increase. That may or may not be true. I'd expect increased throttle response, wider power band, maybe a bump in the rev limiter. The "cammed" sound at idle is cool, but it's not going to make the car go faster.

So maybe a tenth or two, but nothing dramatic. JMO.

I also read that the peak power wouldn't change, I would really like to see some dyno's when these keys are available.

The TracKey is premium only, exactly what parameter of engine calibration change would cause the required grade of fuel to change?

Any input or thoughts on this?

I heard early on that it may unlock a 8,000+ rpm red line which will definitely increase performance even at the same hp level. Hopefully most member's can understand that engineering concept.

Ford said they took the Boss 302 up to 8300-8400rpms, that is outrageous. I also found out that the Track Key is for both Boss's.

Do you think that GM has enough time to offer a Track Key similar?

That's not their style. They'll just make what's possible standard.

The ZL585 also put 560 horsepower to the rear wheels, handles worse than the SS and was stripped down to SS weight after the supercharger went in. If GM wanted to build just a 1/4 mile car, it wouldn't be very challenging. However, they are trying to build a well rounded Camaro and to do that GM cannot ignore those aspects, or the parts that go with them.

The Pedders Camaro is a well built, all around Camaro and something GM should take a look at.

True.

I would hope the car will be close with these numbers (may not be but we will see)

It should at the least be on par with an 11 GT500 in a strait line...GM had plenty of time to benchmark this car and I doubt they would ignore its acceleration performance when designing the ZL-1.

I doubt that very much. You have to realize why ford is making this key. They can label it as "off-road only" so the mileage it gets using that key does NOT have to factor into the EPA standard. So let's say the car gets 27mpg hwy with the standard key and 25mpg hwy with the red key, the EPA rating will be 27. Those are just figures I'm throwing out there, but you get the point. It's a good, cheap way to get around cafe standards and I wouldn't be surprised to see it or something similar in future generations of lots of performance vehicles.

I wonder what the designer was injecting into his/her veins to have come up with the color combinations used on the Boss in the above video??????

Not only that, but it's also supposed to disable traction control and calibrate the stability control for track use. That, with the other changes that will affect throttle response, probably wouldn't make the best choice for a daily driver.

That's the reason for the key. They're not holding anything back, just making a car you can comfortably use every day, and bring to the track ready to go. Now you can argue the key is a bit of a gimmick, it is; a switch would make more sense. But that may play into the CAFE ratings.
