From my understanding and from an article i just read the LS3 has cam phasing too which wouldnt suprise since the new viper engines have the same technology. To increase torque at lower rpms.

As for still trading comments over the V6 search it online. I dont feel like doing it because I am bogged with work bnut it is a 3.6 which has already been comfirmed and i believe a 3.9. The only 3.6 right now is the DI and it will not be to expensive.

The l76 would be a great candidate for the baseline V8 but Gm wont let thre just be one V8 everyone i talked to wants the V8. THerefore GM will put a more powerful engine in it. THe LS3 will most likely be detuned from the corvette slightly but just because the Camaro has the LS3 doesnt mean it will be able to compete with the Corvette in handling, acceleration or top end.

Also another reason you can be positive on the LS3 is that Gm will want the ablitity for aftermarkets updates. The LS3 can easliy be stroked with a 4 inch stroke to 414 CI and with a cam which it can easliy support make around if not over 800 horsepower. The internals are said to be able to handle more. Now just make sure that crank you are putting in can stand up and now you have a car. Despite some transmission issues and maybe rear end failure. But the engine has it. Thats the whole reason for uping displacement on top of out of factory specs. When Gm launched their durmax what did Dodge respond with next year a 6.3L cummings to increase displacement to increase aftermarket power above the levels of the duramax's despite transmission failure.

Actually there is the new "High Feature" 3.6L V6 found in the new Malibu, Aura, and various other GM vehicles in that class. I think the 3.6 in the non-DI CTS and the base G8 is the same It generally rates from 250-260 hp. I think your point about aftermarket, or really GMPP, availability is a great point. By limiting V8 offerings in performance car to the L76 and the LS3, it is far easier for GMPP to develop and market upgrade parts. As seen in the engine descriptions above, the L76 already uses many LS3 parts, so common upgrade parts should be easy to offer.

My best prediction is that we'll get the V6 and L76 from the G8, plus the LS3 for the SS or Z28. Since the first two engines have already been developed in a Zeta architecture car, it seems like the logical conclusion.

More engine speculation...

I grabbed this from a mag I picked up today. Hmm, if this is true, a 550 hp Camaro sounds reeeeeeal nice.

Good find. There are some factual errors, like the "Corvette 6.0L LS small block" but overall it seems pretty solid. I like how they don't go and try to put all of their information as "this is the solid truth of what to expect". I like hearing GMPP will have plenty of offerings for us. That will allow me to pay less up front then upgrade the performance down the road after student loans are paid off and my income is a little more substantial.

why does that not sound factual? cus the new vette/camaro block is really 6.2? maybe their going to offer a s/c 6.0L block to reduce prices...hahahaha

I don't believe it.. they are still calling it an 09 model. That to me points that everything in the article is pure speculation.

Ok, yeah I've been off the forums for a bit but did I miss something? Why is the '09 Camaro suddenly a 2010 model? I just don't know, that's all... Did GM brass come out and say something different and I just missed it? I thought there was supposed to be an '09 Camaro with a 2010 convertible to follow. Where are you guys gettin' this?

EDIT: nevermind, I'm up to date now

I think some of it holds some merit. Like the LS3...at least this mag knows it exists. lol.

But like you said. '09? RED FLAG: question the whole article.....

Check out post #1. This exact page, or article, came out in Chevy Hi-Performance in their June issue. I had posted it on 04-08-07. What I can't believe is that this mag w/ the pic you posted, is either a sister company of CHP borrowing their original article, or this mag blatantly stole CHP's printed info putting it in their magazine!

How jacked up is this?

The only reason they call it an 09 model (still after it's been renamed a 2010 model) is because this information has been reprinted. Seriously...anyone go out and check out your June 07 issue of CHP...page 90. In fact, I think I'm going to email CHP to see what they have to say about it.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

General Motors Performance Parts (GMPP) has plans to market lots of performance equipment for the new Camaro. Some of our sources told us this meant exhaust systems, cold-air packages, special cams, headers, rims, and even DOT drag radials. There was even mention that some of these parts could be ordered to be on the car for delivery.

There's that other part.

It is unclear as to what will be the top model. It is hoped by some to be the Z28, others want the SS to be top. Consequently, we try and say 'top dog' rather than SS because of the differences in opinion. Anyway, all hp numbers are speculation, but I would expect an LS3 as the top engine for now. I think they will have something to go up against the GT500 but not right away, I wish that to be the SS so that I can buy me a Z28!
