As for GT500's, they're beat already so won't be much of a challenge for a ZL1, besides as you said, they're already lining up to buy Camaro's. And a good tune will probably get you a another 50hp. on the ZL1 so GT500 beat for sure.

But, I'd have to say Z06 pumped up with a mega' ProCharger or Vortech, or a stock ZR1 not sure Corvette guys are lining up for a ZL1 anytime soon, the Corvettes are equiped with LS7 (na) or LS9 (FI), waste of time for a ZL1 to be chasing one of those, but sure it would be interesting and enjoyable.

Honestly, though if I had that mod'd 69 dart I'd be joy riding all day long. I've seen some of those on Pinks.
I guess I shouldn't say it was a waist. But It wasn't until I built a full blown drag car that I really started enjoying racing. I just like comparing apples to apples and I believe that stock VS stock is the only way really compare manufactures otherwise your just comparing who has the most money. That's the whole reason why we have different classes in racing to begin with.

Will that make me like my car less?

In the end, the better car is the one that you personally think is better.
I'm not judging which will be better. I was just throwing out a real world situation, which would probably be very common. It is what it is.

For sure that would be awesome. It's too bad the Challenger not ever mentioned anymore. I really like the Challenger but the cost / benefit was just way off base, and when I saw the SS I was sold, especially after waiting 3yrs. for it to come to market.
Any idea what's the specs. are for the SRT-10 plan?[/QUOTE]

It was just a concept they put out In 2009 before the economy went south, but they brought it out with the dodge Acr concept, it was more of a race car with less fancy stuff and more power and handling abilities, and of course it had the viper srt-10 engine in it. I don't know if officially specs were ever released but I'm sure it would of been a he'll of a challenger. And I'm with u I loved the challenger when It came out but when it was time to buy for me there was no comparison to the SS.

I really don't get why everyone is giving the OP a hard time? All he asked is what they would do.....he didn't say his GT500 would beat the hell out of anything. There are no final numbers even out for the ZL1, so you can't go around saying just wait.....your GT500 is a sweet ride....and no matter if i mod my Camaro, or someone mods a Mustang....they still won't be a ZL1 or a Gt500. My no means am I a Ford guy.....but I respect nice cars....don't forget everyone what the 5.0 can do do to our SS stock vs Stock now.

Shouldn't this be moved to the mega thread? I thought it was illegal to make new threads about the mustang anymore.

Either way, I Love the GT500's other than the back side. I believe the ZL1 will be real close to the current version of the GT500 ,but who knows about the new version coming out. By then the ZL1 could get a HP lift. None of this really matters anyway. It all comes down to what car you like. These companies do this back and fourth thing to suck us into trying to one up each other thus selling more cars. I truly believe that they are all in it together because after all, this helps both car companies sell more cars.

ZL1 comes with LSA which is a LS3 supercharged with detuned CAM and forged crankshaft..
Just swapping for LS3 CAM with bring LSA up to almost LS9 power probably..

LS3 has .551 .522 lift and LSA has .480 .480 lift

So I think there is still alot of power left on table with LSA

I'd say stock for stock it will be a drivers race. I think in a straight line the GT500 will have the edge and I base that assumption in that I believe the GT500 will weigh less. That being said, I think as a daily driver, the ZL1 will be the better choice with the IRS. I would see the ZL1 being the perfect combination of Muscle and Sports car. The only think it is missing IMO is a nice touchscreen / nav radio ...

As far as aftermarket .. I think the GT500 5.4L engine is the better choice if you want to go high HP with minimal mods to the internals of the engine.

Go look on the Mustang sites, I bet you not a lot of Boss 302 happy campers. Some pony'ers are on this site looking to purchase a Camaro. LOL
To each his own is correct. I am an individual who prefers original factory high performance cars to modified cars. I don't care about having the fastest car on the street. That's why my 1969 427 Corvette Convertible and my 1969 Z28 are configured just as they were when they were delivered in November of 1968 and June of 1969, respectively, from the factory A.I.R. pumps to the Goodyear Polyglas tires. I can spend hours perusing stock all original classic muscle cars from the 1960s.

Many people like to make as many modifications to their cars as they can, and that's great if that is their thing.

I believe the OP wanted to compare a stock GT500 to a stock ZL1, which is a completely valid apples to apples comparison. I think we all understand that someone can always make a faster vehicle, if one is willing to spend more money, so there's not much of a point in comparing a stock vehicle to a modified vehicle.

My ZL1 will remain bone stock. I know there will be faster cars on the road, but I will be very happy, regardless.

agreed here - doesnt take much to boost that power - hell, a pulley and tune would yield roughly 70-90 rwhp gain. thats badass for any car!

this is what the other poster was not getting - i knew what he was getting at from go, however, perhaps this was too complicated for him.
