camshaft stages?

I've heard there are 3 stages of cams, like comp cams stage 3. what does that mean? Are the TSP 231/236 cams = stage 3 ?

Stage names are just made up by the manufacture, and usually indicate the level of aggressiveness of the cam. stage 1, slightly more aggressive than stock, 2 more, 3 even more but probably starting to push the limits of what you are going to get out of a cam HP wise.

At least that is how I understand it...

Back in the day it was 1/4 cam 1/2 cam 3/4 cam or full .
Talk to someone with experience to get a cam that suits your needs .

The higher that stage refers to the aggressiveness/lift of the cam, right?

Yes... basically a way for shops to easily describe their cam w/o getting into all the numbers

Thanks guys for your feedbacks, but anybody knows which heads are the best to work with Comp cams?

The stock ones... but since you have an L99 and will prob be removing heads to change lifters, I went w/ Scoggin Dickey. Mast also has some great heads. Still not much to gain over the stockers...

Hey im new here but I was wondering would the engine be as reliable with a cam. I was wanting to do a cam and longtube headers with a 3 in x pipe high flow cats and loudmouth exhaust on a l99.

You grind the cam to suite your needs.. you dont buy heads to suite a cam

Inferno yes the engine can be just as reliable.... as long as the valvetrain is setup correctly and it isnt to big... bigger cam wnat more rpms to make power.. very hi rpms are a concern but can be dealt with with the correct valvetrain components.. its more reliable than a blower on an engine not built for it
