Yep, I want it all (and I want it now). You have a point, though. A more powerful engine at light throttle might get better mpg than a smaller 6 or boosted 4. I tend to mileage-shift my Civic most of the time, with occassional full throttle blasts on my local hill. Treated like that, the Base 6 may come close to the numbers I'm looking for....and look good doing it!

Like everyone else said, a 4cyl would most likely get the same or worse mpg than the V6 plus less power. I very well believe you can achieve 30, MAYBE 31 if you "mileage shift" like you already do and keep it under 70 on the highway. Some LS1 Camaro's have seen the 30 mpg range before.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but does the cobalt SS/TC not got 0-60 in 5.7seconds? The V6 camaro does it in 6.1seconds apparently, that my friend is no rice (well unless the spoiler on the back is the size of a park bench, but who cares it adds like 50hp).

Ricers are people!! Not cars! The cobalt, the supra, the GTR, the nissan 240 etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, they are all cars. They become "a ricer" when somebody with a ricer mentality gets a hold of it.

Examples:
Useless wings tat give supposed amounts of horsepower, and increase downforce on the back of a front wheel drive. Stickers for parts companies that don't even make parts for the car! 5000$ body kits that look just horrendous, and put on only because they were told it would make the car go faster. Colored Ducktape!

I mean these people make a car a ricer. It's not the other way around!

Then there is tuners who are the complete opposite. Those guys know what they are doing...

very interesting discussion....my 2 cents...first the camaro has had a 4 in it before. Its was called the berlinetta. It was the base model with of that line. It had upscale interior but thats about it.It did ok, but technology has improved. I think personally gm could make a 4 that would do just fine. I think it was the ford fusion hybrid that get over 30mpg and runs about the same size as the camaro. Also for all the v8 guys, eventually the v8 will go away...Im sorry even BMW is taking the v8 outs and putting in turbo 6's. Also they are bring over 4 cylinders to the us, something they said they wouldnt do until there was a market. people in mass (not the diehards) want the most bang for the buck, if a turbo 6 can get 500hp and a v8 gets 400, most (not all) will choose the 6 for the price.

2 final thoughts.
1. If they did the camaro it should be XFE with a different front bumper and lighter materials
2. scary as it is, gm has talked about shaving the corvette to a smaller size (think 50's vett) and included in that was a turbo 6....and before I get the question I dont remember the source, read it back in fall sometime.

Ya i know what you mean. Funny story, had a riced dodge magnum riding my ass on the way home last night. It had this giant ass hoodscoop (i kinda thought it was the SRT8 model, do they even make that for the magnum?) big chrome (plactic?) wheels that cost more than his ride, crappy stereo stickers all around and after moving out of the way from going 100 for a good 10 minutes what do i see on the back? a spoiler and the SXT badge, for all the ricers / posers out there, if you want people to think you're cool, at least de-badge your POS.

While this is true, it was only true for 1953,1954 and NEVER again. The last 54 model years (skipping the non existent 83) have been V8s. And with good reason. Any corrections to my factoids welcome. (Supposed handful of 55s with V6s eliminated from consideration as extreme outliers)

Dude, don't be an arse. My point is it's a pony car, a very specific and very cool type of automobile only Americans make. I just don't agree, considering the long history of bargain pony cars on the market, that the Camaro should be thought of from a performance-only standpoint. This country used to make dozens of mid-size and full-size 2-door coupes in all kinds of different variations. And if you want to narrow down a performance Camaro in this market, compare it to a BMW 2-door 3 Series. It's not a sports car either. Grand Tourer fits better.

Now quit hollering at me before I decide Camaro owners suck and go buy another Honda. Would that make you happy? Geez man, I'm here because I want to trade my Civic in for a Chevy, and my ideas stemmed from the article stating GM was considering a smaller 6 or boosted 4. I didn't just pull the topic out of thin air. What's your problem?

I don't want to close this thread, but I've got good reason to. Please, tone it down.

I think we're ok. There's a little heat but we're keeping it clean. I consider arse to be far funnier than offensive and assume it was used for that reason. I just take serious issue with someone saying that the Camaro is not a Sports Car and I can't believe I’m the only one who's ears shot up when he read it. My point about the doors is if you add two doors to any coupe it becomes a sedan just like you can turn anything into a limo. While this car is heavier than most would like it is not a Charger. To say this isn't a sports car is just not paying attention to the specs of this vehicle and a bit naive.

The base model Camaro finally has a solid offering for an engine and people still aren’t happy. The V6 in my 2003 S-10 has 190hp and gets 16mpg. In about 5 years they have a V6 offering that makes 110hp more and gets 8-10mpg more. You just can’t make everybody happy. But you can do your best to grab a market share and stay true to the passion that not only kept the car alive for so long but eventually resurrected it from the dead. And that is V8hp. People don’t lie in bed dreaming of V6 Camaros that used to prowl the streets when they were growing up. Lets be honest. If you won’t civic performance in a Camaro skin, I must say I hope that never happens. And as it has been said before a turbo four will most likely cost more than the V6.

And if I was a little surly, well, it was before lunch and I still had to go to the gym. Now I’m tired, full and I love everybody.
