Iiiiii....second this post.

The '69 ZL1 was a Camaro with an engine that cost nearly as much as the vehicle itself. That would mean we'd need an engine even MORE expensive than even the LS9 @ ~$22,000...the comparison doesn't quite work out.

disagree ... i would subtract $5k from that ... there wont be many options and the only 'expensive' one is likely going to be the SSX wheels

I may be wrong. Time will tell. The zl1 could msrp for 60,800 and still be in my estimate. I think gm should charge as much as the market will bare.

At 61,000 - that's about half what a comparable HP corvette will cost. In 1969 the zl1 and comparable corvette were equal in price.

The pricing should not be about selling huge quantities at a low margin. It is GMs halo car. it should be very limited and very expensive.

I've got to disagree.

That philosophy has never been in the Camaro's DNA (excluding the COPO cars...). It's always been a relatively affordable car that offered great bang for the buck. After all, Chevy is a 'value brand'. I certainly don't think they'll jack up the price "just because".

The Corvette is and always will be GM's halo performance car. The Camaro's not trying to steal that thunder, just build on it. This isn't a car they're doing "for fun"...no, it's not needed per-say; but it's not free, either. There's a lot of R&D invested in this car. So if the ZL1's to succeed in the market, it will have to compete with the GT500 in price.

I'm sure they could charge $80,000 for it and several hundred people will still buy it. But how will that reflect on the car and/or the team of people behind it?

It's all in fun... A bit like being in Vegas. Now we wait to see who is closest.

It's not whats in the Camaros DNA, it's about the CAFE rules going into place and it's going to probably be GM's last BIG V8 they are going to be able to release and they are going to command a price point above the norm

Camaro C5 has already stold the Corvettes thunder and until the C7 is release, will continue to do so..

Sure, CAFE plays a role...but how can that be used to justify charging an ungodly amount of money for this car, today?

And as for the Corvette....I guess I disagree there...many variables at work that hurt the Corvette - yet it's still outselling its competitors and customer surveys suggest there is little to no cannibalization of sales (or so I read).

Yeah, considering that I have been offered a new GT500 with all the options for 48K....(msrp 52K), 50K seems about right for the snake killer
