It doesnt need to be 'smaller' since it is roughly the same size as all the previous Camaros... but it DOES need to be considerably lighter. It needs to loose about 500lbs if not more. My dad has a car that is a 'wagon' and it weighs more than 400lbs less than the Camaro. The car is longer than the Camaro and has considerably more glass so I dont see how that is even possible.

Many different factors.... What year is the wagon?

And dont forget about the dreaded model bloat because of updated safety features etc etc...

"Over the years and decades, most car and truck models tend to get heavier and heavier. Some of the weight gain comes from safety enhancements such as big brakes, side impact beams, airbags, and the like, and many models just get wider and longer with each successive generation. Consumer demand has made once-optional features such as air conditioning, power windows, thumpin' sound systems, etc. into necessities, and that adds even more weight"

mmmmmmmmmmm........I DO have to work, you know!

And right now I'm doing something I really love - hanging with my Camaro and Firebird peeps in Maryland - just came back to the hotel to change for dinner/auction. (....this after cleaning up all the drool around the ZL1!!!)

Anywhoo - The question was - does GM see the Camaro as a success?

Many things go into a 'success' - but I think YOU -- as our enthusiasts - can also help to answer that question.

Point: Many Camaros journeyed to Oshawa - and every time I asked someone how they liked their Camaro - they tell me (and very enthusiastically I might add...) how much they love their new Camaro. That said, I'm quite certain that there are those out there that do NOT love their new Camaro - for one or more reasons -but anyone who spends any amount of time around owners of the 5th gen will tell you that this car is not just a car - and that it 'moves' them in ways they didn't know possible.

Another point: I get hundreds of emails telling me how great the car is on a long trip - how comfortable it is - and how the driver arrives refreshed - not beat up.

Still another point: People still stop and stare at a new camaro - that's because of its design - it simply turns heads.

Yes - we're outselling Mustang month after month (and this was even before we had our convertible model) There was an article in Automotive News this week - Chrysler may have some concerns about where they go with Challenger - and I was quite shocked at the article.......but their volume isn't where they thought it would be.

I hate to say we see the Camaro as a success because:

>you never wanna jinx anything

and

>I don't want people to think that we're ready to 'rest' - the Camaro team is NEVER satisfied - and we will continue to work on improvements. (...hint: The ZL1 will be a 'shock and awe' kind of car. We were out at Milford Proving Ground last week with both the manual and automatic transmission cars - and when I say "Ultra-Grin" - I MEAN ULTRA GRIN!)

I think the Camaro is a great source of pride for GM, our dealers, our vendors, and most important: OUR CUSTOMERS!

By the way -- anyone who tells you that we have a date for a 6th gen Camaro is wrong.......not sayin that there won't be one - but it's still out there in the future - - pray that our government does not pass 60mpg CAFE for 2021........

I have other thoughts -- but I'm gonna be late for the Auction!

More later.

Question: Do YOU see the new Camaro as a success???

I see it as a huge success. I've never been more moved, excited, awestruck by a car. And the way that the public still comes up to me at gas stations, stores, resturants and asks all kinds of questions about it two years after it's release says a lot. The Camaro is a home run plain and simple.

Honestly, the Camaro's probably done more for GM than any other new launch product. Sure, Cruze is bringing in a ton of volume, and Volt is a technological marvel, but Camaro was much more anticipated and accepted by such a broad group of consumers. Gave people something to look forward to during a time when everything else seemed to be falling apart.

[QUOTE=fbodfather;3381123] (...hint: The ZL1 will be a 'shock and awe' kind of car. We were out at Milford Proving Ground last week with both the manual and automatic transmission cars

So there will be an automatic version for the ZL1?

As a speculator, I can't see why we're even asking if the Camaro is a success. Look at the numbers! Look at this forum!

I would comment that the future is uncertain. In terms of how most large businesses operate, so many businesses focus in the nearest future. It's because they have to. Investors and regulations are focused on the here and now. Especially as the stock market becomes so accessible to so many people. Quarterly results. Year to date. Everything beyond that is a moving target, even regulations. Who knows what's to come? The Camaro is undoubtedly experiencing success here and now.

I would imagine an 'updated' or successor to the current 5th gen Camaro has been discussed internally by GM at some point. It's too soon to talk about specifics other than model changes for the current generation.

My hope would be that as the market evolves and the competition changes that the Camaro team decides to keep up (and quite frankly, trounce) the competition if/when the market dictates a new model.

My other hope is that GM has moved beyond allowing good models to become the victims of time. The outgoing 4th gen car was long in the tooth when it exited in late 2002 in terms of design, quality, and features (to its defense, it was still revolutionary in some ways, and still very powerful!). And so went the way of the Cobalt, the Impala, and the Colorado...

[Question: Do YOU see the new Camaro as a success???] Heck yes. But I am glad you are not setting on it. We where out to dinner the other night with the Camaro. We could see it from inside. People walking by stopping, looking, and talking about our car, and turning around and looking at it again.

I already knew the answer to the question, but it's like a train wreck, you just have to watch (the responses).
