Question: Do YOU see the new Camaro as a success???
Scott, thanks for asking. Yes, as a car and so much more. It's about how it makes me and others feel, as well as it's V8 power/solid mechanics, sound, and transportation. It's also about capturing missed opportunities, as I was too young to have an SS anything in 1968-72, and by the time I got into high school in '75, could not afford one anyway.

I finally own and drive one of the cars that the cool kids had! My wife loves it too, and we take it many places together for great times with awesome people, like today with NEC5 at the RICOA show!

So all around the new Camaro is a HUGE success, at least from my point of view.

The answer in my case is yes. I was a Chevy guy back in the 80's when I owned 3 Camaros through that decade. Then it seemed to me they lost their way, so then did I. I went away from GM to Ford. Then almost 20 years after my last Camaro, I happened to see the Concept Camaro at a car show. Soon after I discovered this forum and the rest they would say is history................

Paint: NO. I'm really disappointed with the paint. My '93 bonneville has rock hard, almost invincible paint, and after just a few months I can tell that the Camaro does not. In places I can even see THROUGH it.

I also received my car with a big chip in the dash. It's eye level and right in front of the passenger seat.

Why didn't you mention it to the dealer right away, like before you signed everything.

From the financial/accounting aspect of things, I am sure the number crunchers see the Camaro as a success. GM is selling every one they can build, and they are selling them for solid profit margin/unit.

That's not to say that I'm saying accountants should have the last say in product. I'm currious if the initial financial investment GM put into developing the new Camaro back in 2006 was largely written off in Ch. 11.

If their lawyers were crafty enough to write that off (the money invested in the development of the car from 2006-2009) on the bankruptcy, the Camaro is running at almost pure profit right now.

hells yeah:

1. you made me buy an "American" car after not owning one since 1985.
2. All of my cars since graduating college have either been Mazda rotary sports cars or Acura sport sedans, which believe it or not, are not easy to match up with quality-wise.
3. I love this car so much, I"m cleaning it every weekend - that's never happened before.

The car has invaded the dreams of people aged 3 to 103...so yeah, it is a success.

I cannot wait for mine...

How long will success continue? IMO the Mustang, Chanlleger, and Camaro came out as throw backs to the older models, after that design gets stale where does the designer go to update it? I think the old school throw back designs have a limited life spans maybe that's one of the reasons the Mustang sales are off, the latest design as moved away from the old school style. Today so many car buyers want the latest and greatest so where do the designers go to keep the success rate moving in the right direction and the design fresh?

I've heard the 6th gen will be a complete departure from the 5th gen. Possibly back to the sleek look of the 3rd/4th gens.

Still speculation for now though.

LOVE MY CAR. My parents were in town this weekend, and my dad was driving behind me in his Escape. He said it was hilarious to watch all the people who would stare at my car while it drove by, and seeing some of the people do double-takes.

LOVE MY CAR.

Do I see the Camaro as a success?

I don't know about the business numbers (profits, revenues, sales etc.) but let me give you my thoughts on the Camaro:

1. When the Camaro was launched, GM was in their darkest hour and as soon as the car was released, there was a waiting period for months before we the buyers could get our hands on one. The Camaro also became one of the highest selling sports cars in the past 2 years DESPITE the fact that gas prices are at an all time high and our countries economy is not doing too well!!!

2. Because of the Camaro, Ford had to redesign their Mustang in 2011, despite the fact that they had just refreshed the car in 2010. Even though Ford will never admit it, we all know the Camaro was the reason why they did this.

So Yes the Camaro is a success because the car is selling volumes despite the fact that there are many external factors going against it!
