Sunoco is the best gas in the US. If you can find a reputable place.

My tuner has also known this about Shell gas and other for some time now. Who wouold have thought that gas companies would put something in their gas so it burns quicker, requiring the consumer to buy MORE...and the government is okay with it. It's like MSG for gas in there.

Unless you were filling with diesel at a discount station (which buys off-spec material that most places won't buy) and attempted to blend it together to meet the bare minimum specifications something else is/was going on to cause the difference you were noticing in mileage.
Call it what you want. I have been driving the same 104 mile round trip commute for the past 4 1/2 years. I have gone through a shit ton of fuel in that time all from name brand stations in MD and all within the same pricing. My findings weren't just with one tank. Each time I went back to those two stations I had the same results, less mileage. I consistently get right around 19.5 - 20 mpg in my truck. Those two stations drop me down to 18 - 18.5 mpg. And I have never seen a difference in mileage with summer or winter fuel. My mileage difference is not as big a difference as the OP encountered though.

Sounds like maybe the Shell you buy in VA has corn squeezins' in it and the Sunoco you bought in PA did not. I always saw that difference back when ethanol wasn't forced on me the way it is now.

How are you calculating the fuel mileage?

Fill to the top of the neck everytime. Mileage divided by gallons used.

My odometer is accurate within five miles of what the GPS says over a 500 mile period. I have fine tuned the tire size with my Smarty to get it that accurate.

Depends on how much you mashed the gas compared to the trip home.

I've got a buddy (co-worker and next door neighbor) who swears that there are real differences between two of the aforementioned fuel brands and the milage they deliver, he'll drive the 76 mile round trip between his home and the nearest station that carries it, in a hurricane just to buy his preferred brand. I just roll around the corner a block from home and buy mine " the other brand". He still believes he's getting the better of the deal and can't for the life of it understand why he only gets 4 round trips to work and back before its time that he heads back on his refueling journey. I'm good for another three days and yes were both driving stock, auto 010 Gen5 SS's...........lol
