The overwhelming majority chose the ZL1 which was to be expected on a Camaro forum. I appreciate everyones comments and opinions and will weigh the pro's and con's and come up with a decision eventually lol. Good thing is there is no wrong choice when picking one of these awesome machines!

I am one of those people that likes driving the current generation's style of vehicle so to me it's a big deal if I bought a car and they changed the bodystyle in a year. Maintenance is another big deal on a Z06.....not oil changes or anything simple because those aren't cheap on the SS, but I've been told changing the brakes is ridiculous on a Z06....and holy balls the tires aren't cheap. Financing could be an issue with a used car, as some banks won't let you carry a longer term on an older vehicle. Credit unions are usually more flexible with terms though. Either car will be great fun, and provide pleanty of permagrin. It really just comes down to your preference. Good luck.
Im with you on the body style change.. Im sure as soon as I see it on the road I will most likely want it lol.. Although that wont be a issue with me as much because I wouldnt be able to afford a new Z06 either way.

thats why i am witing for the new body change, im sure when the new c7 comes out the price of the c6 z06 will drop and you can probably pick up a newer one for even less money since the current owners will unload them to get the new body style.

as for the zl1, i love it!! but i couldnt buy the same car again. the performance will be great, but im already there with my setup. if i didnt have my camaro and i was shopping, then i would get the zl1

The zl1 is more practical. With minor mods you will have the same straight line acceleration, but you will have back seats and be able drive in the rain and the snow with proper tires.

Sometimes I second guess myself and think about picking up a used C6 Z06 or wait it out a little bit and see what the C7 is all about. I will own a Vette one day and could go either route with the Corvette instead of the Camaro, but then I always come back to the ZL1. The ZL1 truly looks to be a special car and one of the last (and best) of a dieing breed. I want to keep this car for a very, very long time. There won't be anything quite like it in the future IMO.

Technology will advance and the Corvette will lead the way in the future as always. While performance and fuel economy will likely improve, the methods used to get there will IMO somewhat change the personality of the car. I'm much more willing to accept those changes on a future Corvette than a muscle car like the Camaro. I want my big displacement supercharged V8.

I still want to see what the C7 will look like. I have a slight fear of falling in love with it after I decided on the ZL1 and having a bit of buyers remorse. But with that said, I have little doubt that the ZL1 will not disappoint when it comes to providing that modern day muscle car experience that I want.

Maybe in about 5-10 years my ZL1 will have a stable mate in a new C7 or C8

As much as I love the Z06 I think I would pick the ZL1 just due to the fact that It is new and you won't see as many on the road a the Z06.

Man I would HATE to be in your shoes;-)

The ZL1 I'm assuming would be a little cheaper to maintain do to lots of similar traits to the SS and all.

If you are spending your max on either car and plan on keeping them and haven't factored in the maintenance then I suggest you do that before even looking at a Z06, because simple simple oil changes and wear and tear stuff is going to put a dent into your pocket for that car. Either that or just don't drive it alot.
I've been daily driving a Z06 since '05 & have found the upkeep no more expensive than any other car. It doesn't have anything exotic that needs maintained or upkept.

I have a lift & buy my oil/filter at Walmart for ~$50.00. That's the only thing I've had to buy since ownership.

WHAT!!!
The difference between the base Vette and the Z06 is like the difference between Dr. Banner and the HULK!

maybe you should look up the production numbers for ZO6s

I bet GM makes half as many ZL1s in the first year as Z06s EVER

Yeah I was thinking the same thing every time I saw someone say the ZL1 will be more exclusive... I rarley see Z06's. I think alot of people dont know the difference and they think the regular vettes they see on the road are Z's.
