The Z06 that ran that time, might as well have been a ZR1...*he whispers from across the room* ()...it had all the goodies of the ZR1 minus the LS9...

That said...I do believe the ZL1 will be noticeably faster than the CTS-V just based on what we know, and some assumptions I'm making...and the '06 Z06 posted a 7:42 when it came out....

Of course, all this goes to heck when you switch the track......bottom line is it's going to be fast-fast, imo...

The original 7:42:9 Ring run of the Z06 was not just conducted from a standing start (something I warned of long before the company’s official admission) it also included the full track, i.e. the pit lane stretch. See post 95 here for both points. This is similar to how Ferrari timed their lap of the 599 FXX. The standing start added roughly 4 seconds to the Z06’s time. Including the pit stretch added 6 seconds. You can confirm those time estimates by reviewing any Ring videos and seeing how long it takes the vehicle to cover both the pit stretch to timing start (6 seconds) and timing start to accelerate to and brake for the first left turn (4 seconds).

I had asked my contact at GM to make this clear when the first press release was published for the ZR1’s 7:26 run but, sadly, by the time that suggestion made it up the food chain they ended up only clarifying the standing start bit. . But if anyone here knows someone on the Corvette team, just ask them if they in fact ran the initial Z06 lap and timed for the full track. You’ll see.

So adjusted for both its original standing start and its full lap the run should have been a 7:32:9. So the MPSC improvement is really 10 seconds, not 20.



Tires make a huge difference also!
