So your outside temp isn't about 8 degrees high?

You can either buy the update cable, or figure out who's got the cable that's being passed around the forum, and have them send it to you. Once you get the cable, you can go to Axxess's site for instructions on how to update the units.

So did anybody ever find out - A - how do we know if we need to update, and B - if so, what the update is / changelog? ?

A - One way to know is to hook up your unit to a laptop, using the cable, and see what version you're at. The other way to know, is if your temp readings are off, compared to your HUD. That was a fix in one of the last updates.

B - Go back a few posts and I posted a link to the change/update list.
