I had been leaving it open until I saw this video. Then I read the manual on opening & closing top. Manual says to close it, so I've been closing it, but seems to be a hassle. I would really like to know if it will matter. Doesn't really seem hit anything.

SUX, thanks for dusting this off, I hadn't see it. It's clear in the video they leave the handle open. It would be easier than the book method.

I've started a bunch of threads like this. Do a search for threads started by me in the vert section. There is one about your rear seat bellts staining your leather seats.

I always closed my latch when I would drop the top but it was kind of annoying having to open it right before it closed all the way. A couple of times I would just close it all the way and then lift it a bit to open the latch. The problem with this is that the hooks will sometimes rub on the locking plates. One of my openings already had some scratches. I threw a little touch up paint on it and it's good to go.

So I left my latch open and snapped a few pics to make sure it didn't rub on anything. It doesn't, so I think everyone should leave the latch open to prevent these scratched on your locking plates. I' guessing some of you may already do this but it seemed normal for me to close it when opening my top so maybe some of you do this also.

So Sux, did you take these pictures while you were in the trunk with the top down?????

I always closed it... never read about it in the manual, but it seemed common sense to me to do it. I also catch it as it closes and operate the latch without stopping the top... I've gotten pretty good with my timing!

With all the top issues, I don't want to give GM any reason to blame it on me... same reason my sports bar's been sitting in my garage for 3 weeks now uninstalled...

When I open my top, I unlatch, press the button for the opened latch to clear, let go of the button, place latch in locked position, then resume opening top until recessed. Upon closing, I stop the top shortly before it's in the closed position, open the latcht and resume with closure of top.

As a few people reported here, as the top opens I put the latch in the locked position without ever stopping the top from going down. Similarly, when I put the top down, I reach out for the latch and open it without stopping the mechanism. Really simple and easy. I guess all you need is long enough arms. I'm 5'10 so it's not like I'm a giant either!
