There are a ton of different clutches out there. The torque you are making is probably one of the most important things to look at, as well as use.
Some clutches are going to have some trade offs depending on how you are going to use it. For example, we use a very small 5.5" diameter carbon 4 plate clutch on our Corvette race cars. Total weight on the assembly including flywheel is only 14.3 lbs. Great clutch, drives awesome and will hold over 1500 ft-lbs of torque. Down sides to something like this is that it will stall very quickly and you do not have very much stored energy, so it is suited to big torque cars, deep gears, and lightweight cars....great for road racing, not great for drag racing. You can go to a bigger heavier clutch like a ZR1 LS9R clutch, which will drive like stock because it is heavy and should support 600-700 wheel without to much of an issue. You still have a slower revving car but works great for drag racing a heavier car, and a lot easier to drive around town. The metallic clutches like some of the Spec, Exedy, and others will be very grabby and not to friendly to drive but they again support big power. Carbon works great as a friction material as well, but can slip when the clutch is cold, which in some cases will work in your favor as a built in traction control device, just be aware of this. Also make sure it is a quality carbon clutch as materials vary so much that you may experience a very short lived clutch. We use Tilton, RPS, LS9R, and Centerforce as our main clutch suppliers again depending on use. |

Hendrix Twin Disc - The End!
By far the best driving aftermarket clutch out there that will hold big power. |

Lingenfelter also has a nice diff that bolts directly in. No brackets, no different axles, etc. It's a nice looking piece! It would be worth checking out vs. the 9" |

Chris, thanks for chiming in. I really like the ceramic or the level 5. what is the best for my current setup and future HP. I thought your numbers were flywheel numbers. So it looks like the level 5 is fine. Why not the ceramic. It it can handle Ethyl, it should be golden for me.

There is WAAAY more to a clutch other than how much torque it can handle. Ceramic clutches are not the best for a street car....it's probably very grabby and might tend to either be ON or OFF. Until you drive one you won't know what I mean. If I were you I would look more at a twin carbon setup. Excellent holding power AND drives better than stock...most ceramic clutches cannot hold a candle to it in the driveability department. |

Clutch package
BullF16
My car has an LS7 427 ci motor producing about 630hp, 580 FTP. I am running the GM ZR 1 clutch assembly used on the ZR 1 corvette. 10000 hard miles no failure in the clutch. GM clutches are fairly priced also. |

612rwhp/580rwtq. I'm running the stock clutch until I have reason to do otherwise
so far so good!

Same here. I am pretty easy on the pedal so far. I dont track the car so no need to be an idiot on the streets. I have learned its always good to have a plan just in case.
