Here is a picture of the LLT V6 intake manifold. Look just inside of the snout where the engineers built in a dip to collect and trap oil:

I think during testing we trapped 1.4 oz in 3200 miles or something like that on an unmodded Camaro.. no its not like its a quart.....LOL but in the long run it does buildup and so if your keeping your car and looking to do everything you can to keep it pristine its a good idea...imo.. it certainly isnt hurting anything and people waste $120-$180 in a couple good nights of food and spirits ( or at least I do..hahahaha) so in the big realm of money spent its cheap insurance. Its the buildup in the chamber that causes the detonation I think.. ? Tracy that picture is nasty..LOL hope you washed your hands after

Why wouldn't that oil help to keep that intercooler ..... cooler?
Just curious. I am NOT advocating oil in a supercharger.

why do you put synthetic oil in your car , because the maunufacturer tells you to?? probably most do it for that reason..but the real reason to run synthetic is because of the tight bearing clearances in these hp cars...try and run some 20/50 castrol in here and yopu would be lucky to get the car to the next oil change...these ls motors are not built to throw in any weight or type of oil...what happens to the oil that goes thru my sc -rotors-intercooler-then gets into my cylnder if it makes it that far, i,m running meth to cover my ass to make sure my octane doesen,t drop below 93...i don,t think throwing in some motor oil is gonna help me maintain that 93 octane...if that was the case, i would dump my meth and shoot oil into the snout...if you don,t want to spend 100.00 on a catch can don,t..those of us that are runnign higher then average hp feel this a necessary issue..also if you run autocross, i seen gary,s custom intake after a couple laps...that was ridiculous, the g,s involved and the rpm,s that were needed to run 100mph plus, forced a ounce of oil down his snout in just 1 day..that was the last day, he got a catch can, these are my opinions, like them or not..

Why would you be ok with oil in your intake? Carbon deposits create hot spots and preignition issues. Sure seafoam is good stuff and will help clean it, but if you can prevent on the front end, why not?

As you can see the varnish/deposits from the oil ingestion have already coated that intercooler rendering it less able to transfer heat and is on its way to clogging up the fins reducing the amount of airflow. After time it will work at app 50% of its original ability to cool the air moving past it. You want an intercooler/heat exchanger as clean and bare as possible to aid in the cooling ability.

No it does not; neither does the ZR1. I laugh sometimes when people say " if GM Engineers didn't do something or design one then it is junk or not needed". This is a NO BRAINIER to me and I paid for and installed one on my Camaro the 2nd day I owned it. I also do a lot of road course driving and I've dumped a lot of oil out. For the price it is cheap insurance and I put one on just about every car we work on. Is it going to make me rich, no!
![]() There are reasons why the manufactures don't install them and it is spelled out throughout this thread... Everyone can make their own educated assessment but I'll stick with mine. Kind regards, Jordan Priestley 888.308.6007 |

I just went back and read the OP's post, and no where is there any "research" listed to support the threads title, only the GM's opinion in the link......still waiting for someone to post how oil ingestion is "good" in any way...
