If you opted for Gm (dealer) to have nitrogen in tires they will reset tpms when you need them to & fill to correct pressure. I have not been charged for this other than initial payment. My 1st set of tires wore out pretty quick due to just air pressures being off. My dealership has been spot on since the day a brought mine home. Just a suggestion for those interested.

So when it is thrown into relearn mode, the front left turn signal will be on, then front right. That would be cool if it is still in there just undocumented.

Relearn worked for me on my 2012. Link. I really have to wonder if some people are just not holding down the set button long enough on the late 2011s
It would really surprise me to see Chevy make such a short lived change.

Did you actually release air or add air to achieve the "2 horn honks" at each tire? That confirms that it actually worked.
If you didn't have a TPMS error before doing this, the system would have reverted back to your original tire pressure settings.

No I did not release air or add air at each tire so there is a remote chance that it won't work, but I'd be really surprised if it didn't after getting to the point where it is ready for the front drivers tire to be set. I thought it is only supposed to honk once when changing the air in each tire, then two honks when done if done in the allotted time.

My dealer didn't realize the difference in model year TPMS relearns and did it the manual method. They said it "worked" when I questioned them. As I drove the car away I noticed that my just-installed winter tires were set at the exact tire pressures as the summer tires (they weren't all the same pressure and I happened to recall the numbers). I thought "coincidence". After shutting the car down and restarting it later in the day, I got the TPMS error. Trust me, it won't work... Took back to dealer and they fixed it with the tool.

I should get around to changing the tires today. I'm pretty sure I have the older TMPS sensors in my winter tires I wonder if that would make a difference?

I wondered that too. I bought used polished 20" rims with sensors. They were from a 2010 model and still had the issue.

I'm not surprised - I doubted they would change the sensors themselves, they probably just changed the programming in the computer. GM may have even told me that in one of their messages - I can't remember now.

Well I could not do it on my 2012. The DIC let me put in in learn, but as ckaram predicted it didn't work. Oh well I guess its the tool for me.

I won't bother to beat this subject to death further with all the details, but I did go to GM / Chevy through several different channels and all came back with the "sorry, but you can't do it yourself" answer. None of them added "without buying an aftermarket tool". I don't understand them not giving us an option to do it ourself, and once they made that decision the least they could do would be to mention the possibility of buying a tool elsewhere. Thank God for this forum! We may have different opinions but we get to the real truth and share it with each other. |

Does anyone know if when you take your car to the dealer, and have them preform a software upgrade.. will you lose the ability to do the manual reprogram? Any one have any experience with this?
