Looks like my stay in the dep will be even longer. My recruiter forgot to sign me up to take the dlab and tomorrow is the only day I'm not working. So I'm going to be taking the dlab sometime next week. I'll be lucky if there's still a spot in intelligence.

For sure, WAIT! Like everyone else has said. Way too much moving around when you are first getting started out in the Military, and no real need for a car until you get to your first duty station. Stick that money away and dump a nice down payment on the Camaro that you want.

Welcome to the military and welcome to the forum.

That dlab test is the weirdest test I've ever taken. When I was in Basic they made everyone that scored well on the asvab take it because they really needed interpreters. There was probably 40 of us in the room. Only 2 of us passed it, me and 1 other guy that fell asleep and just started marking down answers when he woke back up. LOL! I didn't want to change MOS's at the time though. I kind of wish I did now. Best of luck on the test! I really didn't think it was that difficult, just weird. I'd really like to hear what you thought of it once you take it.

Meps isnt that bad, trust me wait until you experience the military life, if you keep hearing the saying "hurry up and wait" its for a reason only because its true. if you think meps is bad...wait until the really wait begins. I have been in for 4 years and hurry and wait is part of it, but all i have to say is that its worth the wait to serve this wonderful nation.

Also keep personal records of everything!!!!! (i cant stress this enough!) dont trust the military to keep your records make copys of everything!!

This is the reason why you go to MEPS for the Marine Corps...

http://terminallance.com/2011/11/01/...158-meps-exam/

You should read some of those. They explain life in the corps, in a very humorous way, pretty well LOL.

If you think MEPS is bad, the bottom is going to fall out of your world when you get to boot camp.

Also, don't let your recruiter talk you into anything you're not sure about, don't let them gloss anything over, and don't trust anything they say. Some are worse than others, but the bottom line is that what they are interested in is getting you to sign on the dotted line, and will confabulate and outright lie to get you to do so.

When I joined the Navy, I enlisted to be a rate that DID NOT EXIST ANYMORE. It had been phased out and absorbed into a different rate over a year prior to me going into DEP. Somehow, it never occurred to my recruiter to mention this when he was talking it up to get me to sign those papers...

i would wait until you either get your orders or you actually get to your first duty station. And possibly even switch to USAA for banking, insurance, all that. They have a car buying service on there and you can go build your car and it'll tell you the USAA preferred dealers near you that will honor that USAA price. It helped me out alot when I was getting my camaro and i'm a 20 yr old E4/SrA. Also i am Finance so i can tell you from experience with dealing with customers complaining that they can't pay bills and crap, wait and save the money your getting while in basic and training, use that for a down payment. legally i can't tell you what to do, but that's what i would recommend.

Same here.

Satcom huh...You must have went to Ft. Gordon. I was 31R/25Q LOS. Anyhow, to the OP, you may want to wait until you get to your unit. You may get deployed to a base outside the US and then you just bought a car that is just going to sit here in the states. I would just standby until you get more familiarized with your day to day operations.

I took the dlab and now I'm waiting to get my boot camp date pushed back to be able to get that mos. I was supposed to go in march but they didn't have any openings for intel so my recruiter said that we could try to get the boot camp date pushed back a month because there were six openings in that month. The more I wait the more I think about the camaro. Every time I see one on the street I just wish it was me. Everyone on here with a camaro you guys are so lucky to be driving these beasts(:
