running without engine cover?

For those who run without the engine cover on, any noticeable difference in sound? Also, do you think its a heat trap? Or no real difference in sound or temp either way?

I put mine back on for the winter but I don't know about any gains. I don't see why it would make a difference.

How do you get it off? Does it just snap on and off?

Take off the oil cap and lift it up. It has a small hinge style feature on the rear. Comes off with minimal effort.

i heard from a dealership that the cover was a heat shield, even made a thread about it a long time ago. mine is off now, there really isnt sound increase. the only thing it could be for is for looks, or maybe help with heat. but what blocks the most heat is the one right under the hood.

looks much better without. I doubt you would hear any difference. I took mine off right away as it just didn't do anything for me.

My cover is painted to match my car and I really like it on there.

I'm going with a 1pc carbon fiber cover in the spring when I get the car out of storage. At the track I run without the cover otherwise it stays on, anyone who thinks these engines look good without the cover needs to go get their eyes checked. The older carbed small and big blocks really looked nice, the LS motors will win no beauty contests.

I ran with mine off for at least a month while I worked on modifying my cover and getting it painted. Didnt have any problems with it off.

I chose to take mine off just because I think it looks better. I find it hard to believe there are any other benefits to taking it off.

Took mine off, considered it a heat trap, wanted to see the engine, not the plastic cover..No noticable sound difference at all. The engine cools down faster without it I've noticed.
