M6 V6 rear end
I vaguely remember hearing that the rear end on the M6 V6's were the same as on the SS (I don't remember if its the LS3 or L99).
Is this true, and if so would I be able to get the same gears that fit on the SS's? Any input is appreciated.

This is true and the gears will work.

Yep, I 2nd that. It's the same. The V6 auto's are not the same though.

I thought the LS3's came with the 3.45 rear and the L99 and V6 cars had the 3.27 gears? I believe the V6 M6 cars had the limited slip rears and autos the peg leg.

Big improvement IMHO. Very little whine and throttle response is great.
I remember once when I first got the car, I was turning against on-coming traffic, I started to go when I realized my "opening" was gonna close much quicker than expected. Beyond the point of no return, I floored it...and the car just sat there for what seemed like a lonngg second before ambling on across the road. That does not happen now! |

Did you have to use the full install kit or can we do with 1/2 kit?

The SS A6 and M6 have identical rear ends except that the A6 has 3.27s and the M6 has 3.45s. The V6 M6 rear end is similar enough to the SS that SS aftermarket gears can be installed.
Here is a link to the thread from our first customer that installed SS gears in a V6 M6. Either will work but I recommend the full kit if you have more than a few thousand miles on your car. |

Wow glad I seem this thread. Because I was going to start one about the same thing. While my car is at RX Performance I'm getting my clutch upgraded and was looking to see what SS gears worked best also. how much is this full kit? I might as well just get everything done with the Turbos.

Not sure of the best course of action if you've accumulated a few miles (new axle seals?), but if you're planning on significant power increases I'd follow Apex Chase's advice and get the diff bushing upgrade while your at it. Mine are stock and no problems but I'm staying N/A. I definitely wouldn't go 3.91 for a street car, BTW. First gear would be too short. |
