K&N typhoon install. Do you need to disconnect the battery?

I'm installing the K&N typhoon today. It says to disconnect the negative battery before starting.

It says that it will erase all your electronic memory, which I don't want to do.. Also said it might throw an anti theft code. I have really bad luck with codes whenever I do anything electrical...

So, is it really necessary to disconnect the negative? For those of you that didn't, did you have any problems, or codes thrown?

Thanks

I definitely would. Lets the computer re-learn better. You don't lose anything at all, at least I didn't. All that will happen is your compass will say CAL which will go away as soon as you drive around.

Thanks guys.. I got it installed.

Every thing sounds fine while driving and in idle, but there's a slight whistle when I punch the gas. I read it's normal if you hear this, but is there anyway to eliminate it?

hmm give it a 100 miles or so. let the ECU learn and adjust the air fuel ratio accordingly. I would recommend not to push it for the next 150 miles

You will learn to love the whisle at least i did. I try to find it and hold the pedel just right to hear it as the rpms increase. I think it comes from the throttle plate.

Weird. My friend installed the K&N Aircharger and got a CEL after about a week. Turned out to be a leak, and when the dealer tightened and aligned everything the whistle went away. Said he hasn't heard it since.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I've heard lots of people say they have the whistle. I've never popped a CEL. I kind of like it. I call it my poor man's supercharger whine

I agree whistle is normal. If you have any doubts contact K&N directly and ask. They will get back to you.
