Muffler choice
Can someone point me the right direction for a good sounding muffler....
I have a single 3'' catback, and it has one 3'' centre/centre hotdog resonator and a 7'' oval stainless muffler 3'' centre/centre at the rear. I have headers 4.1 1 3/4 3'' with 2.5'' pipes off the headers into a 2.5'' Y Pipe then the single 3'' exhaust. There is plenty room for a new rear muffler and room for bullet type mufflers where the 2.5'' cat delete pipes are. What is a simple muffler swap that has a deep V8 Throaty rumble. Flowmaster 44 SLP Bullets Flowmaster DBX on the rear? Any suggestions? Thanks

I can just change the rear muffler to something like the Atak Muffler or the flowmaster muffler used on there axle back. . Im not so sure a box type muffler like the super 44 is designed to be used as a rear muffler, ? My current setup im only running two mufflers a 3'' hotdog resi and a rear round muffler, so fairly high flowing

They (Borla) make the claim that their mufflers provide more flow than a straight pipe, but don't really say exactly how. If you find out, let me know, because it seems illogical to me how a muffler---no matter how unrestrictive---can be more fluent than a straight pipe.

I listened to all the muffler videos and ended up preferring the axleback Borla S. I wanted the muffler with the low rumble at idle and plenty of growl at WOT. I am not dissappointed with my choice. Hope this helps. |

I was always a flowmaster man but couldn't be happier with no cat's or resonators and small magnaflows all 3". Nice deep rumble idling but is an animal at WOT.

For everyone who watched the video, did you catch the part where he said that the muffler was "proven" to be more free-flowing than a straight pipe? I still can't get my head around that. Small restriction = more flow than no restriction?
IMO, it's a very bold claim to make without at least briefly explaining how this can be. If anyone has the answer please chime in. Until someone can explain the science and logic of that, I will remain skeptical. |
