i didn't wait too long to remove the tape but it still peeled off some of the plastidip.

anyone have any suggestions or tips for me?
hmm, for a little area like the mailslot, tape it off, make sure you press the edges of the tape down nice and hard...

then spray your plastidip, just do one good coat, dont spray to long on any one spot, just go back and forth until everything seems cover just enough, less is more

then let it sit for all of 10 seconds, make sure nothing drips (as it shouldnt if you spray a thin layer) then peel the tape off right away and let it dry.

it takes some time to perfect spraying this stuff, but once you get the hang of it, it can come out pretty darn good hahaa

good luck

i definitely haven't perfected my spraying technique. i did tape the area off but i definitely don't think i sprayed it evenly. It started running on me and everything.

i think i have a good game plan for next time. since my car is black and i'm spraying it white i'm gonna tape it off, spray (very light coat). remove the tape right away, let it dry and then repeat that process over and over until i get a good solid base.

thanks for the advice fellas

do they have gloss black yet?
I would end up plastidipping my house with it

They have what they call a "glossifier", basically a glossier clear coat. From the pics I've seen, though, it looks to be somewhere in between gloss and satin.

Someone on another forum used regular paint and clear on top of the Plasti Dip, it seemed to work out well from what info was given. The link is posted earlier in this thread somewhere.

The house painting might be a good idea, it should watertight-seal all the little cracks and crevices. Maybe I should try it too.

I've read every post on here, my friend has a 370z and introduced me to this stuff. Did all my emblems a while back...wanting to do my wheels since and like many others I've read have curb rash and I want to cover them up. So fixing that and black wheels for $30? What could be better might try it out sometime soon. I'll post pics ASAP

I started my plasti-dip rim project Wednesday with one wheel as a test. It's a wheel that had some curb rash on it so I figured it's be the best one to start with.

I sanded a little on the curb rash to smooth it out and I went to town. Sun was fading so I rushed it a little and the coat was a bit rough in spots. I really didn't put on multiple coats, just good all over coverage. Went back over it with another coat yesterday and it's better. One spot towards the inside of the rim looked like it wasn't done well so I just had to pick at it a little (after it was dry) and then I sprayed over it. You can tell where I touched it up but only if you know where to look and get your face within inches of it.

Assuming I continue to the other three wheels, I'll post pics. I put a pic over in Steiger's plasti-dip tips thread yesterday. Just wanted to post here since this thread seems more rim-centric.

I don't know if I am all that good of a spray painter? Is this a hard application to get used to? Cause I am kind of scared to try it..
