I don't see the synchros lasting long if someone is speed shifting.

I would imagine at least a slight clutch pressure is still needed but maybe not all the way to the floor?
I've driven a Cobalt SS with no-lift-shift.

You keep your foot to the floor on the accelerator while shifting gears using the clutch. The ECM will hold the RPM, it will not let it fall or raise. It don't make it a sequential gearbox. No lift just means your not lifting your right foot during shifts. Basic rev-matching during up shifts.

Is this an actual documented feature on the ZL1?

I'm doubting there is such a thing. Rev limiter, launch control... yes, but I've never heard of an LS engine/TR6060 with a no lift shift feature.

Lots of good info in this thread and thanks to those that answered my clutch question. My experience is mostly with "old School" manuals and modern motorcycles.

I have not been able to find confirmation in the manual either that the ZL1 has No Lift Shift as a feature...

I use it at the road track all the time in the CTS-V. Just keep the gas mashed and shift like normal using the clutch. It doesn't hit the revlimiter and is a very smooth shift.

Agreed...I don't think you will ever find it referred to as "No Lift Shift" but if it is the same or very similar to the ZR-1, which I am sure it is, it is a way to "Power Shift" without hitting the REV limiter....on the ZR-1 you put the peddle to the floor and it holds the RPM @ 4000, you dump the clutch and you are on your way. If you "Power Shift" the RPM'S will not go above 4000 which prevents the Rev limiter from engaging and also possibly leaving a lot of drive train on the ground....I have done it many times with my ZR-1 and it has been flawless. After a few times of never lifting my foot I now ease off a bit just to take some of the pressure off of the drive train...these babies are tough but constantly doing it without lifting a bit is bound to do some damage in the long run....hope this makes sense.

I read in one of the mags that just did a review on the ZL1 that GM did 600 clutch drops at 4000 rpm to make sure it would haddle it. If that's not putting a beating on a drivetrain I don't know what is.

Owners will appreciate other technology in the ZL1, such as the head-up display that features shift lights, or the manual transmission that offers no-lift shifts and launch control. While the availability of an automatic transmission isn’t a surprise, Chevy says the car is actually quicker to 60 mph (3.9 seconds) than with the 6-speed manual (4.0).

Two bits of *technology aid in the quarter-mile fight: “No-lift shift” allows you to crack off upshifts without easing off the gas, and launch control *manages wheelspin and helps 0-to-60 consistency

I always No-Lift-Shift my blown SS through the 1/4 mile... Thought that was how everyone did it.

once I'm rolling, the gas stays on the floor while I clutch and ram through gears.

I don't think it's on the Zl1 either. There's no mention of it from GM when they extol the virtues of mode 5. You'd think they'd at least mention it.

Also,I've saw a post on here talking about it on the C6 Corvette. It's definitely not on my Z06 or Grand Sport vert. Launch control yes,no-lift shift,no.
