Yes but where does it say SA? All it states is snell rated, unless I missed it? My helmet is M Snell 2005

The Snell standard for auto motorsport (SA) is referenced in the NHRA rule book.

Quote:
What are the differences between the SA, M and K standards?

The SA standard was designed for competitive auto racing while the M standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. The K standard was released to accommodate helmets used in karting. There are three major differences between them:

The SA standard requires flammability test while the M and K standards do not.
The SA and K standards allow for a narrower visual field than the M standard (Some SA and K certified helmets may not be street legal).
The SA and K standards include a rollbar multi-impact test while the M standard does not.
Here is the link to Snells website.

I would post a link to the NHRA rule book but you have to buy it.

Thanks for posting all that, Stache!!

The track is an NHRA facility, so they will be enforcing these rules.

I found a C5 vendor that sells helmets & sent a PM to see if there are any discounts for C5 members or good sales. I will let everyone know what I find out.

It's Snell SA2010.

Brain Buckets

We had an interesting discussion about helmets last night.

1. What are the differences between the SA, M and K standards?

The SA standard was designed for competitive AUTO racing while the M standard was for MOTORCYCLE and other motorsports.

2. Picture yourself hurtling toward a cement safety wall, out of control, your car starting to roll, how many drivers in this situation will shout out DAMN! I AM SO HAPPY I SAVED $20 ON MY HELMET AT WAL-MART, eBay, flea market...

Your brain is the most important part of your body, well it is for most people, the last place you want to save a few bucks, the last place you want to hold the line on cost is your helmet. Buy the best helmet you can possibly afford to buy. Make certain it is a 2005 or 2010 AUTO rated helmet. It will be the best money you ever wasted, if it is never used in a crash.

3. I can't speak for the drag race tech inspection, but I can speak for the Autcross Inspection. If the SNELL tag is not inside your helmet, if the SNELL tag does not read SA 2005 or 2010 you will need to borrow a helmet that does or you will not run.

No worries. There is a lot of confusion about helmets in general and Snell Standards in particular. The more we talk about them the better. Questions and discussions will benefit the community.
