My dealer got rid of the indentation by playing with the cable tension underneath. It took a while but it is almost gone on the driverside and gone on the passenger side. It just take some time to get it right.

Hey guys, I got my order number tonight and will get my TPW tomorrow. So stoked. Just hope this one is 95% better problem wise than my first one.

The GOOD news is that I have absolutely no sign of rub marks at 1481 miles! I noticed the rub marks on my first one before 1500 miles. I'm not ready to say "fixed" yet but I am encouraged.

That's what I assumed would happen. I have them on both sides. The drivers side is worse than the passenger side.

I was wrong.

I told the service writer that I think some tensioner cables might need to be tightened and asked for the top (vette) certified guy to look at it. This tech is the same one who did a very good job fixing the issues created by the trim shop when the top was replaced.

I spoke at length with the tech and he stated
1. Inspected multiple cars on the lot and about 50% had this type of issue.
2. He called GM, opened a "tac case" whatever that is. Probably their internal ticketing system, and gm stated not to do anything with it.

Yes, I'm sure they are nervous to do anything if there aren't existing rub marks.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. I feel that it being a bit loose can't be good for normal wear and tear. At least it's documented. Documenting it doesn't help it look or wear better though.

hmmm.. how hard should I push this?

I would keep an eye on it. If it is noted great. If it doesn't get worse I wouldn't do anything for some time. However, if it gets worse, get it back asap.

Okay, it's time for me to get the ball rolling on my top repair. The hissing wind noise from the passenger side window is really annoying. Originally, I was told that was normal so I placed tape over the rear side window seal from front to back.Quess what. The hissing wind noise disappeared. I'll schedule an appointment for Monday.

That is utter BS.

My dealer had 8 converts on the lot. Four of them had the wrinkles and the other four were smooth as a baby's butt. After I pointed that out, the ball started rolling.

light indeed at the end of the tunnel!

After a disappointing follow-up Monday with GM, I spoke with the Field Rep again regarding my BBB claim for the rub marks, I was advised the following:

1- (and a direct quote) "GM ACKNOWLEDGES THERE IS A PROBLEM"

2- There IS a permanent fix being tested NOW.

3- They are trying to special order the parts needed to apply this fix to my car asap (squeaky wheel gets the grease)

4- they WILL offer a documented, extended warranty for my top once fixed

5- All of the above will be put into a binding (on their part) arbitrary agreement authored by the BBB and my case will remain open with GM during the duration if my extended warranty

A-MEN!!!!!!!!!

Many of you know gm bought my 2011 back and I now have a 2012. No signs of rub marks and nearing 1800 miles.

I met Jerry (camaro5 member AFCMSGTRET) as were were winding down from our great weekend at the Sunshine State Camaro Rally (well over 100 cars.. a blast... but I digress) and we started comparing tops. His was built 11/29 and mine was built 12/15.

Sad to say we found that Jerry is starting to see rub marks at 1k miles. As the following pictures show .. it's clear there was a change between his build date and mine. At least we caught Jerry's rub marks before much damage is done and he can now document it with his service department. Nice to mee you and Good luck Jerry.

Jerry, keep in mind most of our major problems come from shoddy repairs so I would proceed with caution, however the problem won't go away and only get worse without some corrective action.

It looks like a completely different part. 1st picture is a side by side close up and the last to are wider angle. All pictures were taken from the rear looking at the back side of bow 1 while the top is halfway open. We pulled the fabric back in order to get a clear shot.

Notice the 11/29, how angular it is as opposed to the 12/15. It's clear that the angular circled point is what is causing the pinch point that results in the rub marks and holes on the 11/29.

What do you all think? Are Jerry and I right? Is this the "fix" that went on the line?

That clearly looks to be a different part used in the later build. I'm going to check mine this week. Thanks for posting this.

Definitely a different arrangement than mine (shown) The dealer wrapped velcro around the sharp fasteners. Yours seem more rounded.

Cam-

I gotta say... no.

This is a fix from one of the early TSBs.

Wish I coulda made it this weekend to compare, but mine bracket has already been trimmed to the Max (where I fear it may eventually fail) and I still have the marks.

From SUX2BUs lotion test, and my replication of the same test- it appears clear that its a compression issue in which the canvas folds tight against the metal rails/frame of the top, and the marks are caused by the material pressed up against the edge of the rail.

Its quite evident in the pix SUX and I posted ; a perfect match. It appears the corrective measure would either be trimming the rail or adjusting the top compression.

I'm in the process of a fix with GM n the BBB, so i'll definitely document the changes as they're made...

In any event, point is- light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

Interesting. I still think it looks like a different part. It's a bit mor concave also.

I haven't done a lotion test myself. I can only say, I'm nearing 2k miles and not even the slightest hint of rub marks.

I agree that the first fix was to trim and tape that piece. So I believe they've changed the part for the fix. Whether or not that's the fix on the line or not I can't say.
