There are several upstanding and honest dealers around. A few of whom support this website.

It'll be uncommon for the first few months...but not impossible. All people need to do is look around.

LoL.... too funny..The Buzz going around about this car for the past year or so will jack the car's price up significantly... Dealers are aware of the demand for the ZL1 and they will take full advantage, even if it means bumping people on the so called "List"... Trust me, if they can sell the Camaro ZL1 to a customer for say, $5,000 over MSRP, they will surely do it, and that so called "List" will be a joke. They are interested in making money, not worried about selling to the first person that stated he/she wants one.. I'm sure 20 other interested people went to the same dealers that everyone else went to and, they want to be on the list.. Some I bet are willing to even drop a Bigger down payment over the next..

Let's see how many will actually stand in line to buy a Camaro ZL1 when GM/Chevy lists the MSRP and it's in the $55,000 range.....
100% agree, the list is not going to mean a thing when the DMU comes into play. I am on a list with deposit and do not believe it holds any significant importance other than the fact they know I want one. Ultimately they will go to the highest bidder. They (dealerships) are capitalist and want to make the most money possible if the demand supports the mark ups.

There will not be a lot of these cars built. Gm says they will build to demand and I believe they will. Look at the list of buyers on this website, 50 or so. This will be a car that will be built to order. A lot of dealers won't be able to have a 55 thousand dollar car eating their floorplan up. Another thing, GM will require dealers to invest in special tools to work on this car. No tools, No service, No sales. Also GM is requiring dealers to upgrade their facilities. This will also play into allocation. There is a lot of dealers that don't care if this car exists because the investment to sell 1 or 2cars is not worth it. Most dealers are not car enthusiasts like the people that frequent this site. I work for a Chevy store and although I see demand I think supply will always be an issue. One other thing is, there will always be something on constraint with this car, which will also limit supply. I can also say I know more about this car than anyone at the store because of Camaro5.

Since my dealer already had 3 built and they just used allocation for mine, to jump me to 3,000 I doubt it.

3-5 sold at regular prices.
Which brings us to the ZR1. Huge markups to be the first on the block.
Huge incentives at the end of the year to move inventory. Discounts up to $15K.
Chevy had to throw those incentives at the ZR1 so dealers would order new ones. Dealer's greed ended up costing Chevy $$$ on a car that should have brought them huge profits.
There will be markups on the ZL1 and I hope the dealers choke on them.
It may be good for us in the end because Chevy will throw incentives at them
to get the dealers to order more. So while I can get a ZL1 for invoice, I'm gonna wait for the incentives, however small they may be.

I guess I don't get it. Do all manufacturers take this approach? It can't be true. For a car like the ZR1 and the ZL1, there should never be the need for incentives. If the dealer is an idiot with the markup, why should the manufacturer offer incentives to sell it later on? The dealer should be stuck with it. The only reason possible I can see is that the manufacturer needs to sell a certain number of vehicles to make a profit on the R&D and marketing. I have no idea what that number is, but I assume invoice pricing or whatever that the dealer pays would take care of that. By offering incentives on these special models, it appears the manufacturer is shooting themselves in the foot.

I ordered alex33x's ZL1 quite a while back as a 2012 We were only able to get two
2012's and had orders for more. Currently Alex's car should be the first 2013 we get.
:-) Alex, I hope to deliver it to you soon. I also have an order for a Yellow ZL1 automatic from another customer. Availibility is going to be better for 2013, but you still won't see many stacking up on dealer lots for a while.
