229 isn't all that terrible for a ECU.

I don't really want to mod the physical aspects of my car, but I wan't to get rid of the torque managment, have the tap shift delay removed, and have the engine tuned specifically for my engine rather then the cookie cutter settings that are in there now.

If I send it to a shop, like ADM performance, and get a seperate ecu put in with the tunes listed above what actually needs to happen when I need to take my car to the dealer. I realize I swap out with the original ecu but how do reset the crank position or whatever that is? I don't want to have to take it to a performance place each time I want to revert back to the factory ecu. Is this possible for someone with no tuner knowledge?

I have read that a dashhawk can do this but since that isn't no longer supported it probably isn't the best route

Sweet....looks like I'll have to go visit ADM one day since they are only about 10 min away (I'm just west of Highland Village). I've never had a performance car that had a computer (they've all been First Gen Camaros). Sounds like a tune is almost going to be a must on the new SS. I'll just have to talk around and see how the warranty is going to be affected.

Andy....I might have to talk with you about having our First Gen club meet at your place one day for a tour of the shop and a look at some of your cars.

It means it is just one more hint to the dealership that you've swapped out your ECM...

I'll get flamed for that I'm sure...

Basically what this is is a "learning opportunity" for your ECM to learn the variations of your crankshaft sensor. Sounds weird, but as these are mass produced sensors (heck, even one-off customs would need it) the ECM has to "get to know" your sensor in relation to the "perfect world" sensor it was programmed to.

Crank relearn can be done with EFI Live (which is probably the way you should tune anyway) instead of a dealer.

http://www.blackbearperformance.com/faqs.asp
Q. Will I need to perform a Crank Relearn procedure with your tune?

A. Yes, as with all other tunes that involve swapping out the stock PCM for a tuned one that was previously in another vehicle, you will need to perform a crank relearn procedure. Any dealership or shop with a GM Tech 2 or other high end scanner should be able to perform this procedure in under 5 minutes.

Customers that utilize the Scan Cable option will be able to perform this procedure on their own, provided that they have a laptop available to use. This is a potential savings of up to $100, depending on dealership rates. This does not apply to 98-00 Classic Body style trucks and SUVs.

I`m going to use "Jeff" he is too large to be hand held though...

Carolina Automasters is doing it and he uses HPTuners.
