If the new camaro has 400 hp base V8 and comes in at 3800 pounds, how is that going to be any better than the 2006 GTO?

It will look like a muscle car and less like a sedan. It will perhaps handle better being a newer platform and tested at The Ring (If standard V8 was tested there and not just the SS version..hopefully upgraded suspension is available for standard V8 as an option). The interior will probably be a lot nicer as well.. A 400HP V8 is plenty fast for me and I would be happy with that number at 3800 pounds...

what platform was the GTO on? because that curb weight does make me nervous... if the Zeta platform is a heavy one what is going to stop the Camaro being 2 tons? i know the G8 isn't all too heavy for it's size though... so maybe i just need to breath...

Not that I'm in any disagreement, but I just find it hard to understand why a coupe would weigh more. It just seems to me having more openings (i.e. doors) rigidity would go down, not up. I'm sure GM will be using a lot of high-strength-low-alloy steels like they've been doing as of late. They were hydroforming a lot of these panels in the past, which helped preserve the thickness and strength in the panels, so I'm sure they'll follow suit with something like that on these cars.
I just hope they stay away from plastic or composite panels, like they had in the 4th. Gen. It just made the car feel cheap... IMHO.

That logic would be pretty bulletproof if a coupe had doors the size of a sedan's front doors. That big opening requires more added stiffness. Four door cars include a nice piece of structure between the front and rear doors. I'd guess it could go either way.

I'd agree with you, but the Coupes have to have a B-pillar now in order to meet crash requirements. Hence the stationary rear windows. I hope the Convertible comes in a hard-top so i can have the look of the coupe with roll down rear windows...

i dont see how weight is the single deciding factor when buying a car, some of your really wouldnt buy the car you want because it weighed too much? there are dozens of other things to consider when buying a car and weight and hp shouldnt be the only thing.

This car is HOT!!! Weight is not gonna matter to almost everybody that buys it except to the hardcore racing enthusiasts. It will not affect sales in the grand scheme of things.
