wow... how many cylinders are you going to shut down in a turbo 4 engine? that is just crazy talk... i think that we're at the threshold of economy and performance for our affordable technologys of today... 260 hp and 29 mpg out of an engine that at 130hp gets upwards of 36-42 MPG... i'm going to be interested to see how many MPG the 300 HP version is going to get... maybe it'd be more efficient (MPG) to get the 300 HP out of the 2.4L or the 2.2L ecotech engine...

December 1999, stock 1999 Trans Am w/LS1 6speed cruise control on, certain stretch of road in Texas between Austin and Brownsville, and I got 32MPG. Most of the trip from California to S. Padre Island was on avg around 28MPG.
10 Years later... I think we will see better gas mileage and more power than a '99 LS1, but that's just my guess. Mustang numbers will soon be 300, 400, and 500. Expect Camaro to be that and more. |

Does anyone know the pounds of torque these engines offer. A heavy car does require a degree of torque to come out of the 'hole' and then letting horsepower take over. I enjoyed the small blocks of Gen 1 Camaro's but was totally blown away with the torque of a 396. I drive a V6 Chrysler 300 and for the first three gears when manually shifted the car pulls well. I see on one post that car weighed 4,200 lbs. That is a lot of weight to place in motion for a 250 HP V6. I wonder how well the suggested 4 cylinder would do?
Transmission gearing and rear end ratio is key. In daily street performance I would take a motor with a lot of torque and gearing to keep Mustangs corraled and Challengers challenged. Your thoughts. D1 |

There has to be a V8 Camaro under 30 grand. Otherwise we can kiss the whole vehicle goodbye (that'd be about 30% of sales that are unappealing to shoppers). And since the only things we've heard out of the bigshots at GM is "around 400 hp"...I think it's very likely to see a 400hp Camaro for under 30 grand.

Probably closer to 25hp. A user on another forum just posted today with testing, measuring, and calculations that his car required 22hp to cruise at 65mph. I think his car is a Nissan Altima, IIRC.

304 hp V6 -273 ft-lbs heres where it gets interesting. in the G8 the L76 makes ~8% more torque than hp. If it gets tuned up to 400 hp, it will make something between 391 and 432 ft-lbs. The detuned LS3 in the G8 makes 402 hp and 402 ft-lbs.

I agree; I can't see why that engine can't get pretty close to an LS3 with a little tuning. You know that GM has to make the tunes in these cars with some margin for safety, so I'm sure there are going to be tuners who could get another 10 to 20 more horse from tuning.

http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/cor...6576726f6c6574 I think Chevy can get a 2.0 liter turbo 4 cylinder Camaro to be $22,000, but the V6 will be the main seller and the one that will compete with the 350Z & 370Zs of the world. Chevy in my opinion will charge $26,800 for the V6 and the LS3 will be $35,000 at least. I know the SS Supercharged will be out of reach, it'll be at least $44,000. We can ony pray prices will be cheaper. The 3.6 liter V6 Cadillac CTS starts at $33,990. Do we really believe Chevy can make the V6 Camaro for $14,000 less??? Cadillac CTS-V starts at $51,425, can they make the Camaro SS $14,000 less than that??? http://www.edmunds.com/cadillac/ctsv...6164696c6c6163 Based off other GM cars, Pontiac and Cadillac for example, there is no chance in my opinion of seeing Camaro pricing cheaper than either of those division's best.
