Engine cover = giant heat trap?

This is the intake insulator - I suspect it's primary purpose is sound attenuation but it would also insulate the intake from underhood temps (however it would hold the heat in transferred from the heads). However it is definitely removable and I took it off my car when I upgraded the intake primarily so that I could ice the intake down in between runs. Anytime I am racing the car I remove the engine cover to eliminate any heat buildup, primarily on the drive to the track.

Here you can see where it isn't the bare intake, but some sort of cover .. look at the right of the intake (runners).

Does anyone know of aftermarket fuel rail covers like the ones on the LS3 vettes that can be bought with something else on them besides Corvette? Seems like some aftermarket company would be all over this???

Did you park in a closed garage? Do you realize how many other GM vehicles have plastic covers like this? My 77 C-10 Silverado stays hot as SH*T for a while after I park it. I let it cool over night if I'm going to mess with the coolant/radiator. And if I'm going to mess with the exhaust, I try to pull it down the driveway and park it in less than a minute - 'cause it gets too hot to handle.

Instead of the laser temp gun.... did you try turning your ignition key to see the reading on your temp guage?

STL... Seattle? I would start worrying about the engine cover when all the Southwest guys start complaining about the engine overheating... Arizona, New Mexico, Texas... until then - just look at your temp guage every once in a while.

The whole intake is plastic. As said has been that way since LS1.

Been nice if the heater hoses would of been routed different, I've seen some smaller covers that just cover the coil packs. Might of been a LS1/LS2 motor. Speedys cover looks good/Has that SRT factory look

I was wondering where all the vette style covers were. IMO it looks much cleaner and more, well, like an engine. After seeing that picture I might go a similar route with the painted runner covers and some custom coil/valve covers.
