I love manual trans sports cars, always have, and most of my vehicles have been manuals. The Camaro is the first brand new vehicle that I have bought with my wife, so being considerate of her I decided to get the L99.I do miss a manual trans but I do not regret buying the L99

Why not teach her to drive a manual?

I did, I taught her in a little S10 pick up. She just said that she didnt feel comfortable driving a manual trans camaro because she wasnt confident that she could drive it correctly and didnt want to mess anything up, and to me if she wasnt confident about it then I didnt want to chance it either.

sorry, not a race car. Legally registered and insured for street use.

In fact, it was bought "off the rack."

Makes sense.... You want her to comfortable however she drives or it won't be fun at all...

Autos quicker but stick feels quicker and a bit more fun. Now I still think I would go manual in a zl1 or high HP car but wouldn't be so against an auto if it had the HP to back it up.

At the Virginia International Raceway the track record for the ZL1 Camaro is exactly one second behind the best run the new stingray could pull off. And incidentally that is still one second better than Gen 6 ZO6 carbon edition with Z07 package could pull off. The ZL1 has posted a better lap time on the Nurbergring than any base Corvette to date including the new stingray. No official time has ever been posted for that car but I can tell you that that track has some very long uphill straights that favor the high horsepower in the ZL1. Oh, and in case no one has noticed GM is making a new Camaro called the Z/28. I don't think even you would say the Z/28 is not a racecar, and it happened to beat the stock ZL1 around the ring by less than 4 seconds. - I almost forgot it is only available with a manual transmission. Hmmm.

Don't get me wrong. I think the ZL1 is a good, possibly great car. It certainly is for the $$$$.

But the original mission of the Pony cars was cheap sporty luxury. And the ZL1 does that in spades. But let's not make it something it's not; namely a race car, although it's more capable that most. That's not to say that they don't get raced! But people race skateboards too.

You mentioned you consider the corvette a race car. The stock ZL1 can beat 90% of the corvettes out there around any track. What else do you consider a race car because the ZL1 with a few mods can probably out run it. I think it is very funny that you say the ZL1 is not a racecar. I frequent a local road racing track and on occasion will pay for driving instruction from a professional race driver in my ZL1 and the 2 pros that have been in my car have said, "holy crap, this thing is a racecar". With a few intelligent modifications, the ZL1 will run with just about anything wearing a license plate. It is a much better choice than a skateboard if you plan on racing.
