Engine Noise

Has anyone noticed their V6 whistling? When I've gotten out of the car to get the mail and the wife pulls it back to the garage it sometimes has a high pitched whistle. Also goin down the road while under power (normal) it has a sound of something like a muffled pop corn popper or coffee perculater! Car runs fine and have had no problems with it other than these 2 noises! 2LT manual.

Read this thread. Others have experienced the whistling too.

Usually an engine will draw fuel pressure after it gets running a bit, so the pump is likley building the precharge and then shutting down or going to a lesser mode of operation. I'd bet the injector system demand is the reason for this.

On start, at least residual fuel pressure (usually after the car has sat a bit and bled off pressure) fuel pressure needs to be built up fast, thus the highest load on teh pump. I don't see this as a problem at all and believe it to be normal. I'd bet it's just that some pumps are quieter than others, but I'd also bet when you don't hear that (if you do now) you'll likley have a problem - like failed pump.

There are several here with same issue and my car has yet to burp at all, runs like a dream. I LOVE IT !!!!

1250 miles and I've yet to get on it yet. Waiting till after oil change at 1500. Going Mobil 1. Enjoy these beauties all !
Yeah, this sounds pretty reasonable, about what I'd expect to hear from the dealer if I ever brought it in to ask about it. But I'm not nearly worried enough to do that. Haven't had any problems with her so far, right around 2200 miles now. Did auto-cross with her yesterday (so awesome!), ran like a dream

Same here, every once ina while I get that whistle when I first start the car up in the morning, but by the time I get down my alley it's gone. Figured it is normal, but if it is an issue please post about it, so I can take it to these Aholes at the dealer. Never buy from Burt Chevy. Also noticed inner drivers side taillight was a little darker than the rest and they never put my front license plate holder on.

Changed the oil tonight and after shutdown, heard a bit of the whistle. It is difficult to narrow down, but with engien cover off and full access to the intake, there appears to be some kind of a PVC valve mounted directly in the middle of the manifold. A vacuum line runs from it toward the back of teh engine. By the time I get close to it, it goes away and since the engine was warm, could'nt duplicate it on start or runs. The 'PVC' valve taps up and down like an old style one would, as if manifold pressure is bleeding off. As it does this, the whistle slowly goes away too. If anyone that has it wants to confirm, remove your engine cover and expose the intake. Get your engine warm and on shutdown, go quickly and see what I'm talking about. It dissipates pretty quick, about 5 seconds or so. Perhaps it's not apump but just vent air past the valve when the valve opens. Maybe some are just a tad more restricted and whistle through the restriction ... like a toy whistle ... while others are less restricted and quiet. Either way, again, I don't believe it's an issue.

Yes, I get the whistling noise for about 10 seconds and then it goes away It only happens the first time I start the car in the morning. I don't seem too concerned about it but I'll have them look at it when I get my oil changed. Please let me know what the outcome is on the noise. Thanks!

Apparantly this must be semi-normal for these cars , or else its some issue affecting a huge number of people since so many here seem to be hearing it.

I hear it on my 1LT/RS as well. With radio on a decent volume, I cannot hear it, but its easy to pick out if you turn the volume down.

Would like to know what it is, just to ease my curiousity if nothing else.

Don't know what your comment is supposed to mean...but it was not taken as funny to me.

I came here looking for some insight on the noise my car is making.

Some people have said that a ticking noise is common with direct injection engines. I really don't hear it on my V6 but I know others have mentioned it here.
