One of the main reasons the GY'S won out over the PSS for the 1LE is the stiffer sidewalls. For a DD that sees occasional track days the PSS are better tires. More comfortable ride and waaaay better wear they are less sensitive to cold also. If you are looking for a set of dedicated track tires there are plenty of options out there.

I have both sets, (2 sets of wheels), and have tracked both but not on the same day, that could have affected the results.
I got the PSS's for daily driving as they are better in the wet and colder weather. I've run the GY's only during hot conditions and felt they held up good considering the temps (high 80's to low 90's). The car was better balanced with the square setup with no push. I ran the PSS's first for a day that was a mix of heavy rain (2 runs) and dry track (2 runs) with temps in the high 60's and thought at the time they worked well. The second day was only 2 weeks ago and was dry all day long and mid 50's morning with mid 60's in the afternoon. I didn't like the feel of the PSS's and felt the car was pushing in the turns. I would have sworn that they were much slower than the GY but when I looked at the video my laps were 5 to 6 sec faster than last summer in the heat. For spring conditions when temps are cool and/or possibly wet track the PSS will work good. They still don't feel as good to me (soft sidewall?) and don't take the heat. I don't commute to work anymore so won't be getting another set but will focus on a better track only tire when these wear out. One other thing to mention, on the PSS I went with 285 front and 295 rear. I like the looks but the bigger rear tire does make the front push whereas the 285 square setup on my car gives very balanced handling. I won't do that again either.

Has anyone done any comparison laps on a road course in their 1LE? Other than the Pobst laps and highly or otherwise modified wheels, I know more than 1 of us would be curious which dot approved tires are best on track. (This would not be any R tires, as they are not street legal.) I'm not asking for the MT article that did Z/28 wheels&tires to stock wheels because those are obviously apples and oranges.
It would have to be done on the same car, on the same day, and the same driver, using the same timing equipment. You get the idea...

Same day at Laguna (dry, 50's and overcast) GY=1:46:52 PSS 1:47:87 but the big difference was the fall off when hot...GY stayed the same, PSS got greasy as soon as they heated up and slowed down... To be completely transparent the gy were squared and pss 285/295

I bought 985 PSS because they were $100 less per tire last year, not sure what the difference is now.

I haven't taken the time to read all of this but I read your opening comment and I have this to say about the Michelin tires in my experience. I have used both the OEM Goodyears and the Michelins on the track and the street. Road track that is. Both my wife and I can't stand the Michelins and the ONLY reason we buy them is for winter time since the Goodyears aren't able to be used in the cold. As soon as the weather broke,...and I had the cash..., I put a new set of the OEM Goodyears back on and couldn't be happier. The Goodyears grip the road, and the track, like a cat on carpet. I've never in my life been so impressed with a tire. The grip is beyond awesome! There's no sidewall flex at all. Turn in as hard as you dare. Yes, they wear out much faster but that's the price you pay to play.
I've put the Michelins on the track one time and vowed never to return to the track on those tires again. The sidewalls buckle, there's no grip, and I've relegated them to mildly aggressive daily driving. My wife even went as far as to say she didn't feel as safe in the car anymore with the Michelins on the car. She doesn't like any kind of drifting feeling at all. Her loss. But I agree with her to a point. I have read all the same things you're talking about with people gushing over the Michilens and I bought them based on those recommendations. My car spins them all the time. I was able to walk the ass end of the car out hitting 2nd gear more than a few times. Turning off the traction control with those tires makes the car a handfull to drive compared to the Goodyears. I've talked with a bunch of people about this and none of them seem to have the same issues I see. My car is bone stock other than a CAI. So it's not like I'm pushing crazy power. My 2 cents.

According to the engineer/test track driver I know who was involved in the chassis suspension development of the 1LE said the vehicle was designed with the Goodyears because of the still sidewalls. That great balance is partially derived from the Goodyears. He loves the Pilots but they have softer sidewalls and the car sets up differently-at least to a driver of his skill level

I like the PSS for DD/AutoX-Road Course which in my mind is one lap take a break do another lap repeat. This is what I do...
If I was planning on doing serious laps at say Sebring or Daytona, I would look for a better tire that is more track oriented. Personally I think that is the place for the PSS... Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
