I used to have issues that seemed basically the opposite of what you say about the PSS with the GY F1's. They never got hot enough to get sticky.

I do wish the PSS had stiffer sidewalls though.

Amen! Sorry to all of you that love these tires but the only way these get back on my car is if you give them to me for the winter. Even the wife doesn't want these tires back on the car! Oh ya, I just replace them with new G2's and they no longer make the 30k PSS according to Discount Tire. What's that tell ya?

I've tracked both tires, same day - but different vehicles. Several track days with each tire, actually.

The Goodyears last longer during a session. The MPSS grip every bit as good, but only last for about 15 minutes of hard laps and then they turn greasy. If I were picking between the two solely on track performance, I'd stick with the GY's. If you aren't an aggressive driver on the track (I am), you might not even overheat the MPSS tires. The MPSS would be a better daily driver tire, with occasional track use.

That being said, I went to order some MPSS tires for my '14 1LE, but they were on backorder, so I've ordered the BFG Rival tires in the same 285/35-20 size. So, I'll eventually have a third tire to compare with.

Which car did you try the MPSS tires on? In my experience, the heavier the car, the quicker they turn into mess of grease. They let go in a matter of few laps on my 1LE. IIRC, they lasted a bit longer on my Corvette.

Tony, Rivals are eh..there ok, like NT-05's...maybe the new Rival S are better, but they are not in our sizes.

Interesting experience and having tracked with you I have no reason to doubt what you're saying Tony as I know you're a fantastic driver. However I've had the exact opposite experience with both sets of tires on my ZL1. I've over heated the GoodYears much faster than my MPSS. However I have since moved to the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R's (305 on all corners) and while the grip is about the same as the GY's or MPSS's they seem to dissipate heat much better. However I'm still in the testing phase, I've only had them at two track events, Grand Sport and Texas World.

Well, I won't buy PSS's again for this car. The 295's were about $100 more ea than the 285 size, to a big pill to swallow for me when buying a set of 4. They make a great DD tire but since I retired I seldom drive the Camaro on the street so I would rather have a better track tire. Best for me would be the PSS for street/wet track days and sell my second set of stock wheels/tires and switch to something in a 19" setup. I don't like the looks of the 19" Z28 wheels due to the extra wheel well gap but they would be great for track use.

Great thread - this info just convinced me to keep the stock GYs on my ZL1.

I was only able to run AutoX with the GYs so I can't compare on the track. However, the PSS tires worked great for me at Sebring last summer. There was another modified 1LE there that was faster than me in the straights but I made up my ground in the corner so I was definitely pushing the tires and they never went greasy on me. This was 4-20 minute session in the middle of summer so it was hot.

Here in Florida you cannot count on dry track days with all the thunderstorms we have so the PSS are perfect DD/track tire. I just had another track day 3 weeks ago in the rain with the PSS tires. Wouldn't have done that with confidence with the GYs.

Like everyone says the sidewalls are soft and you can feel the difference when you turn in. I'd like to try the Ferreri spec PSS, I was looking at this but I believe they were 295s and $100/tire.

Toehead the Ferrari specs have stiffer sidewalls? I have 285/295 but don't know if they are the Ferrari spec or not. The set ran me about $1800 installed though...

I realize it varies by driving styles, but for a car that is not tracked, we're probably looking at only 10k miles out of the F1s?

How much more can be expected out of the PSSs if you go that way?

I got 8K out of my stock F1's and they were way gone. My PSS have about 12K on them and I'd guess they are at roughly 55% - 60%...
