You're right, they are. But I might be willing to give up a bit of cornering ability in exchange for giving my rims a bit more protection against curb rash by going with the 305's.

Just so you know, a 305 is really intended for a 10.5-11.5 wide rim. I'd check with some reputable tire safety specialists; like the manufacturer of the tires before I'd put these on a 9. That's awfully narrow for that tire.

No kidding, really?

The recommended rim width is 10.5" to 11.5" for 305's, with 11" being ideal.

But the good news is that you just shaved 4lbs in tire weight off of each corner over the stock 275/40ZR20's. Stock is 36lbs per tire vs. 32lbs per tire for the 305/35ZR20's.

No rubbing on the inside during hard cornering?

Now you can go through the automatic car wash and not scrape your wheels...

I ran a 275 on my Mustang GT's 8" rims for years going through multiple sets with zero problems.

Yeah "really" except they're not 9.5's, they're 9's which is why I posted the "update".

Sorry guys, thought they were 9.5 so I stand corrected...But thats even less width. They do look good but I like to stay within spec on whats recommended tire on spec wheel.

Mustang with 17" rims or larger?

I know that many people are gun hoe to put a wide ass tire on the car, but to compromise the effectiveness of the sidewall is not something that i'd want the liability for.

275's on 17" rims can be done with drag radials with no issues, and some of the undersized tires (toyo's ect) that say 275 but actually measure up to a 265 will list that an 8" rim is approved, while others BFG, Bridgestone, Goodyear, ect will call for a larger width rim.

I do like the look, and i do like the eagerness, just don't want a bunch of people thinking it's 'ok' to do something that the tire manufactures say is not ok.

Considering the amount of power you've put in that car, I honestly would say in all good conscience you should not use that tire/rim combo. Putting a tire designed for an 11" rim on a rim 2" smaller is just not a safe thing to do IMHO. The sidewalls are designed to handle the weight and stress according to the support from the proper rim width underneath them. I think you're just asking for sidewall failure or a blowout of some sort. I'd hate to see you get hurt or damage your beautiful car.

The factory 275 is the widest tire safely recommended for a 9" rim, and it's actually designed for a 9.5" rim ideally.

I had 305's on my 07 525rwhp Mustang GT in a 18" 9.5" rim no issues.

Maybe a 295 would work better on our cars?

You gotta love fat rear tires on a muscle/pony car.

Looks really nice.
