Chevy service pricing
So I purchased ground effects for my camaro and the dealer quoted me $417 just to install it. Is it me or does that price seem awfully high? Opinions?

Seems high. Install it yourself. It isn't hard. There's even videos on YouTube of DIY installs

I don't know how many hours that kit states in the manual... but you should find out. Many dealers try to charge more than the specified time. Body shops typically have much lower labor rates and are probably more skilled in installing body kits anyway.

Dealers says 3 hrs for install! My thing is theres no way it should take the dealer 3 hrs to install that. Especially that they do these things for a living.

The dealer is generally not there to help you with after market parts, even if they are GM. Find your local paint and body garage, walk in the back door to one of the paint guys and ask if he would like to make an extra $200. ...or, DIY. Labor shop rates have become ridiculous at $100-$200/hr. |

Go to You Tube and look up each individual part install. I know there is a good video on installing the splitter. There should be one for the rockers too. Anyways, I installed my own splitter. It took all of 30 minutes and that included putting the car up on ramps. You can do it yourself with no problem.

Any plastic part made by/for GM will have the GM part number and usually some sort of written description molded into the part. Just look over each part and you should easily see a GM Part number on it somewhere. Or go to any online GM parts website and type in the kit part number shown in the eBay link. It should have a match on the parts website. One site you could go to just to check the part number would be gmpartsdirect.com.

The amount of time charged is generally taken from the manual. The actual amount charged will be based on the shop rate (+ parts, taxes, and fees). So the time should be consistent between shops, the price will vary.
