Its impossible for mine to look like look like 500,000 or 100,000 when my car has exterior parts on it only a few cars could have because they were never consumer market produced. Nice try.

It may have better performance out of the factory, but I can easily change that. Warranty's are only as good as the dealerships upholding them. Way better interior again, thats subject to personal opinion. Thanks for proving my point that the exterior of the 2016 isn't that great.

Its rather obvious that you're one of those people that has to have the latest and greatest no matter if its really better or not.

I enjoy these threads, simply because aesthetics are subjective, and all the responses reinforce how many different takes there are on... pretty much any subject.

When it comes to pure data and stats, conclusions are easy. The 6th gen is a phenomenal platform from any technological standpoint. Chassis, powertrain, suspension, even the price point at which all of that is available is a win in the 6th gen's column.

Is there another car that can generate the sort of performance the SS can, straight out of the show room in the 45-50k price range?

How it looks though, well, beauty, beholder, etc. Personally, my take is that it is evident that there are some stylistic choices that are calculated to appeal to as wide an audience as is possible. There were several articles I've read stating that it is calculated to appeal more to millennials than the 5th gen did.

To those of us that dug the retro vibe on the 5th gen, that's a mis-step. My nephews? They're liking the 6th gen.

Me, I like the looks of the 5th better, would have preferred the 6th try and strike a similar chord to the 2nd, as I like them, and think it would have been historically fitting. I don't think the 6th is ugly, more toned down from the more 'in your face' styling of the 5th. I dislike the side markers and the rear end styling in particular, as do many others.

I originally thought that about the '14 model year change too, yet here I am driving a '15, and pretty much in love with it.

Given that my 5th is approaching six months old, financially, it is far more advisable to continue down the modding my 5th gen route. So, that's what I'll do. I won't rule out a 6th in my future. I don't intend to get rid of my 5th. I bought it having seen early glimpses of the 6th, aware of it's potential performance advantage, and with the intent to mod it to the edge of being streetable on a routine basis, at which point I'd make it a weekend warrior and move on. Who knows what I'll want as a daily driver at that point?

How does the 6th represent any change to that? The path to barely streetable might be shorter? The pinnacle of modification might be a bit further toward some metric? Wasn't going to get that far anyhow. Financially, given the price differential, that could be pretty much a wash. There's the lead time in getting mods into circulation to account for also.

Pretty much the sum total of my thoughts on the 6th are, cool, hope GM sells a bunch of them. They are an insane deal for the dollar amount. I like my 5th better aesthetically, but I like the early seconds and all of the firsts even better, aesthetically. There are a bunch of cars I like the looks of even more. From a performance standpoint, it's all about how my car performs.

Put differently, I'll dance with the girl that brought me. My girl's a little heavier and a bit slower, for now, but wow do I like how she looks. She moves nicely and makes some fantastic noises when I do the right things. What more can I ask for?

I don't really love it at all! I was simply expressing a comment based on GM's position. We will be keeping our car for a good long time to come if I were to guess. I am concerned it may be smaller inside (large person here), but if I do fit, and the performance numbers define it a such a better platform to make our track car, it may be hard to not consider a 6th Gen 1LE.

Retro design is what sold the 5th Gen in record numbers, so I have no idea why they are drifting away from that. I think it's a huge mistake on GM's part. Instead of grabbing the ball and running with it, and maybe dominating the market, they are chasing the Mustang and their design choices reflect it. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see the 6th Gen selling nearly as well as the 5th did.... even though it's a better car.

At this point, my next car is narrowed down to three choices, a resto-mod 1st or 2nd gen Camaro, a brand new Challenger, or a trip to a Barrett Jackson auction in search of a resto-mod '68-69 Charger.

I assume GM is trying to attract buyers who favor Japanese sports coupes while still trying to satisfy those who favor the 5th gen styling. I don't know if those groups overlap. We'll know in about a year when we have several months of sales data.

I would consider driving a Challenger or Charger, even though I've told myself I will never buy a Chrysler product because of the experiences relatives have had with Chrysler vehicles.

Yeah, I can see that. There is a huge segment of the buying population that loves Asian cars (and most of them aren't even what I would call sports cars). But I wonder how many of them like the Asian models simply because that's all they can afford? If all you can afford is a used Civic, then you're a long way from a $30-50k 6th Gen Camaro, even if you love the new styling. That price point might be the gap that separates the two groups you mention - and if so, that could spell trouble for GM.

The other thing that concerns me is the similarity of styling design between the 5th and 6th. Prior to 2016, every time we got a new generation of Camaro, it came with totally new styling. Look at the 1st and 2nd, or the 4th and 5th gens... Anyone could tell them apart, even people who know nothing about cars. For the first time ever, we have two generations of Camaro that look similar. So much so, that I wonder if the average person, other than noting a new model year, might not know the difference.

As an owner of a 2014 model, when I saw the new 6th Gen, I breathed a sigh of relief. The new car looked a whole lot like my car. I wasn't going to be holding the keys to an outdated model. Nor was I going to be eaten up with the desire to run out and buy a new one.
