[QUOTE=Guinness2;8873152]The Speed Engineering headers are a great value. $300 shipped w/ Off road pipes I can't confirm this but they probably come from the same factory overseas as the TSP headers do for more money. They fit great and I have no problems with clearance either. The welds are decent and they have a merge spike inside. I've owned every generation of F-body and had many headers from other manufacturers that didn't fit, look or were as well made as these Speed Engineering pieces.

This is great news as mine are at the local ups hub waiting to be delivered tomorrow..... What is a merge spike tho?
Thx for the input

Interesting video on headers including to coat or not to coat -

Here is an article as well - http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...ers-dyno-test/

Short story - coated headers reduce the amount of heat in the engine bay drastically.

This is a good description from Stainless Works.....

Increased Power
Too much air resistance or back-pressure, can make it difficult for the cylinders to expel exhaust, restricting an engine's power. Merge spikes help reduce turbulence, which means less back-pressure; allowing your engine to unleash more power.

Better Scavenging
Inspired by race-system technology and performance dyno testing, the Stainless Works merge spike was developed to direct airflow towards the center of the collector, which helps promote scavenging.

Improved Sound
The other benefits of creating a more directional airflow is that the turbulence within the collector is reduced; improving performance, and generating a purer sound.

Paid ~$560 to my doorstep for TSP 1 7/8" w/off-road connections, installed myself and tuned by our lead tech at work for free.

What's the word on those headers? I am ready to pull the trigger on some headers, I need a project for next weekend.

I would rather spend a few extra to put some food on the table of an American worker any day of the week.

Our headers fit as well now as they always have. When you buy a set you're putting food on the table and supporting not only the 15 employees we have here, but freight companies here in the states who ship them, the company who makes our boxes, the company who supplies our paper for packaging, etc. You keep the extra $400-600 you would have paid for a comparable "American Made" 1 7/8" primary header in your pocket, spend that however you like and you've pumped even more money back into the US economy!

We'll keep making and offering quality components at reasonable prices. If spending an extra $400-600 for a set of headers because they're "American made" makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, by all means! We sell those headers too!

TSP headers are definitely not built by the same people that make anything for speed engineering. I'm familiar with that manufacturer and trust me no TSP headers are coming from that facility.

The TSP headers are a nice design with velocity spikes, merge style collector, thicker materials & we use seamless tubing. That's why the warranty is so good.

Also keep in mind the newest version has increased steering arm clearance. For the money difference buy the TSP system the first time & don't worry about seam tubing failing etc.

Had speed engineering 1 7/8" long tubes on my car with their Catless connection pipe, was decent quality, but I decided to sell them off for a set of the 2" Texas speed headers, and I must say, overall the TSP headers are generally nicer looking, welds looked a lot better, and even with 2" primaries were actually further away from the steering arm than the speed engineering units. Not going to doubt the speed engineering headers as they were fine, but now I initially wish I would've went Texas speed the first time around, as I feel they are definately worth the extra money!
