What about the next person who has an engine problem and they have a catch can installed? They will want to do the same to help with the costs..
Everyone knows that mods "could" affect their warranties...

I suppose but this case irks me for many reasons and this isn't someone asking for help either. The guy has not asked anyone for a penny. He has accepted his fate and is trying to make the best of it. Cudos to him!

I understand that there are a lot of people that would take advantage of a gofundme account even though intentions were genuine. Definitely a dilemma that I wish on No One. |

and I agree with you there, kudos to him to want to put it all behind him. And I know that he is not asking for help, but I hate that for every time you do something nice, there are people who will expect it for them. I have seen it too many times.

It almost seems like there has been a movement to 'scare' people about warranties. I was going to the dealer to have my "first" oil change done so as to create a maintenance record to satisfy a lease. (they were too busy to get me in) It's 11 months old w/ 3000 miles and I've actually changed the oil TWICE!
But the point is, the service writer said, "You'll want to get the service scheduled ASAP so you don't void the warranty." For a 3000 mile oil change? On a lease? It's like they're pushing the "voided warranty" thing, hard. Maybe they need another cash infusion. Maybe should GoFundMe for GM!

Its true abuse can result form this sort of thing but I figure I can use good judgement in that regard. Would I sponsor a gofundme for Tila Tequila to get firmer breast implants to make her a better porn star. Not likely.... well wait a second maybe LOL.

Nothing fishy. Nothing more. I've been on this from the beginning. I've also read the replies from certain unnamed top GM folks and while they seem to have only one side of the story, they are sticking to, "where do we draw the line?" John has been 100% honest. I know him well and will vouch for him. Hell, I let him put his hands in my cash till during Camaro fest time and time again and I'm VERY non trusting with all the crap I've dealt with. John still doesn't know how a catch can could have caused the failure but he needs his car fixed. If he fights this, he spends money on a lawyer and can't touch his car until it's inspected, etc for court so it's current condition can remain untouched for court, etc. He knows he's getting the short end of the stick but he also knows this is a chance he took just like all of us when we go putting on aftermarket parts. But as for GM's "where do we draw the line" statement? I don't know... where do we? I'd say 80% of us have some sort of mod done to their car. All I've done to my ZL1 is a CAI. Does that mean I run the risk of losing my ENTIRE power train warranty just because of a CAI??? Shoot...if that's the case, I guess I better go back to discount tire and make sure I have F1 Supercars put back on my car....would hate to lose a power train warranty over tires. I mean....where DO we draw the line.... Legitimate question.... |

Combine the lower margins, with the increased technology, and tighter tolerances required on today's engines to remain competitive. Add to that equation the added cost to manufacture these engines, and yes, the need to monitor proper maintenance, especially on a lease vehicle, is crucial. Keep in mind, on a lease, the dealership considers that car to be theirs, they're just letting you drive it. They are looking at resale value after you turn it in. |
